Judge A. A. Allen, of Steam Mills,
Decatur county, was raised in North
Carolina, graduated at Athens in the 1
class with Robert Toombs, was ad-1
mitted to the bar, practiced moved law there j
for sometime, and thence to
the southern part of Georgia, where
he helped to run the boundary line
between Georgia and Florida. He
gained much note as a lawyer. He
was judge of the Supeii«#*KJourt for
two years on the circuit in which
Bainbridge, the county site of Decatur
county, is situated. His eyes failed
bun a few years ago, and he quit the
practice of law and went to the farm.
He was very successful at that. His
son, Mr. J. L. Allen, now one of our
best merchants, moved he e in the
spring. He liked the pi.r.f lre *zesof
Chipley so well that he prevailed on
his father and sister, Miss Ruth, to
locate here. We all give them a hearty
welcome and would be proud tor
many such persons to move to our
town.—LaGrange Reporter.
The Cincinnati Gazette has this:
“I never was exactly buried alive,”
said old clerk, recounting his expert
ences, “but I once worked in a store
that did not advertise. When I came
out my head was almost as white as
you now see it. Solitary confinement
did it.
