HAMILTON, GEORGIA,
December 4 1885.
All the brawls in Atlanta now are
between wet and dry advocates.
And now an honest democratic
President is afraid to attend the fa
neral of his associate in office. Is this
a monarchy, that the rulers should be
afraid of the people ?
Prohibition points now constitute
the most attractive column in the
daily press of the state, It is the
question of the time, Such interest
was felt in the late Atlanta election
that one hundred thousand words
were sent out to the press from that
city the night of the election.
We should have admired the cour
age of the President had he told the
over-anxious politicians that it were
better that their chief should die in
the discharge of his duty, than that
he should shirk it and live. It was
his duty to attend the funeral of the
Vice President and he oaght to have
put his trust in Providence and fol¬
lowed his convictions of duty.
An effort is being made to have
the board of education of this county
change the public term from the early
fall to the late winter months. There
seem to be many good reasons for
this change and the counties in which
it has been made are well satisfied,so
far as we can ascertain. The county
school commissioner of Meriwether
says that it has greatly benefited the
public schools of that county and that
the attendance is not only larger but
much more regular.
