“ If any of the anti-prohibitionists
of this city wish to go to a safe place,
we advise them to remove to Early
or Harris county, as both counties
have voted for rum.”—We find the
above in our esteemed contemporary,
the Savannah Local. Our brother is
right in advising his anti-prohibition
friends that Harris is a safe place for
them as our people are law abiding
to a degree, but if they would sell
whiskey, ours is not an inviting field.
Hamilton is a place of 500 inhabit¬
ants and is the only place in the
county in which they would be allow¬
ed to sell. We have two bar-rooms
here, each of which contributes $300
to the city treasury fer the privilege.
If Savannah levied a proportionate
tax for population, the license would
be in the neighborhood of $20,000
for each bar.
AT YOUR SERVICE.
There is a pleasure in trading at a
place where one receives courteous
attention and always a pleasant wel¬
come. Such a place is the Clothing
Emporium of G. E, Thomas, next
door to the Rankin House. Although
this is one of the most magnificent
houses in the city of Columbus, a
happy welcome awaits every patron
of the house when he visits the city.
The clever Thomas sets an example
for his worthy co-laborers and his
corps of salesman is not excelled for
cleverness anywhere. They have a
magnificent line of clothing for their
friends to select from, the goods they
know are honest and the prices rea¬
sonable, so that they can meet every
man upon a square footing, knowing
that they do him good service when
thUy sell him goods. Do not fail to
give them a call when you are in the
city.
