THE HAMILTON. JOURNAL.
PUBLISHED SEME-WEEKLY.
VOL. XV.
LOCAL AND PERSONAL.
Mr. John A. McCants has placed
upon our sanctum table an apple
limb that in a space of ten inches
contains forty apples.
Last night the wind blew a gale
suggestive of September. The wind
did no damage, so fat as we have
ascertained, and as a gentle rain is
falling this morning it is thought the
weather is on the eve of settling and
becoming seasonable again.
We had a pleasant call yesterday
afternoon, from Mr. Davidson, the
gentlemanly representative of H. E.
Bucklen & Co., of Chicago. This is
his third summer in the Southern
states, and in that time he has made
many friends for his house.
The reports we get from crops is
favorable. Much upland corn is
about made and reports from bottom
land are quite favorable. Cotton is
fruiting early, which stunts its growth
somewhat, but seasonable rains prom¬
ise to remedy this. Favorable sea¬
sons henceforward will insure to this
section a profitable harvest.
Messrs Dozier and Arnold are at
work upon the annual catalogue of
the college and will soon have it in
the hands of the printer. There is
a very fine outlook for the school, as
there could not well be otherwise
with such a team at its head, If a
whisper ot discouragement has been
started it has died before reaching
our ears.
The members of the executive
committee of the Harris County
Sunday School Association are re
quested by the chairman to meet him
on Tuesday, the 5th day of July, for
the purpose of arranging a program associa
for the annual meeting of the
tion. The committee is composed of
S. M. Brannon, Chairman, J. M.
Kimbrough,H. C. Jones, E. D. Long,
and G. IV. Poer.
Miss Cornelia Floyd has been
chosen principal of a school near
King’s Gap for the public school
term, and has resigned her position
in the college that she may begin
next Monday. Miss Cornelia is a
young lady of fine natural ability,
well educated and well qualified her in
every way to teach. She puts
conscience in her work and manages
to enthuse her pupils with the work
before them so as to obtain the best
results. As a patron of her depart¬
ment in the college it affords us great
pleasure to publish this endorsement,
Give Them a Chance.
