every department. Our experience

The school of Prof. W. O. John¬
son is progressing finely. A large
number was added Monday, 8th.
Also a large number is expected
last Monday. Prof. Johnson has
worked his school well. An assist¬
ant will be necessary, as the school
now numbers forty, and more will
come when the weather breaks. We
ought to have a school of 75 at this
place. People are in earnest in re¬
gard to sending to school now. Our
academy is well heated witu comfort¬
able stoves and our school house is
furnished as well as any college.

town had quite a merry Christmas.
Christmas is over and here I come

Mr. R. E. Richerson has moved to
Mulberry Grove. Little Miss Beers
has some one to help her cry—an¬
other baby in town.
Capt. Hardy has his saw-mill in
full blast. He is cutting logs into
lumber as silent y and quietly as a
black snake sliding on pine straw.
J. M. Huling, Esq., went hunting
the other day and met a couple that
wanted to marry, so he and his friends
halted and John Kimbrough and
Georgia Kimbrough, colored, were
made happy there in the old field
and went their way rejoicing.
Mr. Jim McCoy, a prominent
young man from Panasoffkee, Fla.
has been spending some time with
his uncle, Mr. G. W. Gordon, to re
cru j t his Filing health, He left last
Thursday to visit his mother in north
Louisiana. He will then go to Den
ver, Colorado, where he expects to
make his future home.
At Rest on the Bosom of Jesus.
—Little John Whit Rees, the baby
boy of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Rees, de
parted this life Thursday 12th. He
was a bright little boy, aged 2 years.
We tender our sympathy to the be¬
reaved parents, trusting the Heaven¬
ly Father will comfort them—make
them feel tnat their loss is their dear
little boy’s gain, for our Heavenly
Father say:>: “Sutler little children to
come unto me and forbid them not,
for of such is the kingdom of God.”
John Whit’s illness was brief, being
sick only a few days. His death was
quite a shock, but death with his
syckle of death often cuts the bright¬
est flower. John Whit was the pet
of the family.

Master Willie Lasseter, of Blakely,
who attended school here last year, has
returned and is again a pupil at the

The election for county sohool comrois
siODer which was to have taken place last
Saturday was postponed until Monday,
the 23d on account of the non-arrival of
the proper blanks.
Mrs M Ivey and Miss Patty Ivey, who
have been here on a visit to relatives,
left Tuesday for their home at Perote,
Ala. They were accompanied home by
Mrs J B Mobley and children.
The Woman’s Missionary Society of
the Methodist church desires to have an
address Sunday night from Kev W M
Hayes on mssionary work. He will doubt**
less accede to their request and the ser¬
vices will be very interesting.
Judge J F C Williams, as will be seen
by an official notice elsewhere, baa or¬
dered an election for Sheriff on the 9th
of February. He baa appointed Mr Brit
Williams, who was deputy Sheriff, to fill
the office until an election is held.
