Many thanks to the M. H. cones
pondent. It is not best to visit one

become dry and irksome.

I heard of a farmer not long since
that liv^s a few miles off that said he
had struggled hard for several years
past to maintain his family and had

clerk for Road Walker (road walker).
His wife declares she has lived bet

efforts are being made to detect the
guilty party. If they are found out
they will be carried to the full extent
of the law. “A hint to the wise is

T here is still another great evil in
our land that does not meet the at¬

that is cruelty to stock. I am utter¬
ly shocked every day, witnessing the *
cruel treatment of the poor dumb
brute. Th$ colored race are so cruel
to their stock that sometimes I can
hardly keep fiom remonstrating with
them. I have seen them take large
poles and beat their mules in such an
unmerciful manner that I would turn
off with a sad heart and pity the poor
downtrodden brute. Mr. Editor, is
(here not a law to jjiuicu Drotect th** ui . dumb uuuiu
brute? If so why is it not enforced?
