Hardeman Notes.
Miss Lizzie Houston’s school at
Hope will vacate soon to com¬
mence again early in July.
Uncle Mike Calhoun, who has for
some time past been confined to his
room and bed, is improving gradually
and we hope soon to see him restored
to his usual health.

Architect and Giver of all good
Oscar Truett returned home last

trying the saw mill business.
After sawing two fingers and trying
smut business he icturned a wis
man, and content with the old red
of Harris county, and where he
can see more girls save those of red
hair and cross-eyes.
There is a certain young widower
who, in passing back and forth to
his farm, makes it convenient to drive
the cows of his nearest neighbor,

matter of recompense selects from her

prettiest and best, neatly enclosing
the same in paper to the young wid

I see from the action of the exec
committee of Harris county
that an election (primary) for senator
and representatives of this county
occur in July. The great ques
tion now before congress is the tariff
and we expect soon to see each can
didate stauding for protection or for
revenue. The times demand
that every man must define himself and
let the people know what plank he
stands upon, and if he is not able to
find one that is rotten and will break
through let him take a board. As
my position I am for Grover Cleve.

The interesting P. M. of Wisdom

last week on the suburbs of our
village and as accident turned our
steps in the same direction, we weie
well entertained by his ready wit and
timely jests.
We must beg leave to say to our
readers that we spoke too soon in re¬
gard to our turkey hunter, Mr. J. S.
Hadley, for since the previous writ¬
ing he has been happily rewarded for
his tiresome searches by killing a
very fine turkey which was greatly
enjoyed by a few friends last Satur
day.
Eva Brooks, a sweet little daugh¬
ter of Prof, and Mrs. W. B. Smith,
who has been a lingering sufferer for
several weeks is now,we are glad to
say, able to resume her studies, but
her vacancy on the sick list is filled
by her older sister Miss Sallie Lor.
Hope she will soon be well too.
A young lady taking her usual
afternoon walk the other day passed
her father’s horse lot and carelessly
laid her new calico bonnet on the
fence of the same, not dreaming of
the danger. After going to her
journey’s end and leisurely retracing
her steps the first object of impor.
tance that met her gaze was Miud,
a dreamy-eyed, innocent faced mule,
prancing round with the larger por¬
tion of Miss Clara’s bonnet in her
mouth. By great endeavor she man¬
aged to get a part of if it back, but
the best thing I can think of would
be for Miss C. to learn to retail bon¬
nets. Moral: (to Mr. A.)—Beware
of innocent face*.
