Our boys “got there Eli” on the
game of ball Saturday evening.
score was, Chipley 23- Stinson 27.
Messrs James White and Rob Surles
played the battery like a daisy.
Capt. J. J. Tucker, chairman of
the board of trustees of Chipley
High School, called the board to¬
gether Monday evening and they
unanimously tendered the school to
Prof: W. O. Johnson. He has not
yet accepted, but will give an answer
at an early date. There are one or
two little complications that should
be considered by the public at large.
Two years ago when the academy
was built, eight or nine men furnish¬
ed the greater share of the money.
The other was gotten in small
amounts. A large number of those
men were necessarily compelled to
build a school. The training of their
children pressed upon them the duty.
Some put in the money for the gen¬
eral good of the public and for en¬
couragement of the town. These
men have had the thanks of the en¬
tire public for their generous acts
and gifts, but some of the trustees
come to the front and say that their
money should draw interest, Was
the money intended as an investment
or as a gift to the people ? It would
" be impracticable to pay this interest,
from the mere fact that if the man
who put in $100 should receive $10,
then the man who subscribed 25 c
should receive 2^c on his investment.
Don’t you see ? The feature that we
see is that a tutor cannot afford to
pay rent for the academy at the pres¬
ent rates of tuition, which are very
low. We would kindly suggest re¬
flection in this matter. Our school
is prosperous at present. Be sure
to obtain the best talent. We think
that $100 rent ticket will give room,*
perhaps, for poor talent to accept
the terms.
