The bar rooms closed Saturday
night and now Harris county is dry.
God be praised. Whiskey may be i
blessing to humanity; some say it is.
But the dram shop has no defense.
Its tendency is to evil and that con¬
tinually. It employs clever talent to
attack man on his weakest point—his
appetite—and its tendency is to tear
down, not to build up. Of the men
who have been engaged in the sale
here we have not one derogatory
word. Bar rooms as they have Con¬
ducted them do the least harm possi¬
ble for them to do. That they have
been closed so undemonstratively de¬
mands the thanks of all Now let us
do all we can to have the money that
has been worse than wasted in drink
applied to good use. That prohibi¬
tion has come to us without that bit¬
terness that has characterized its ad¬
vent in other communities is a cause
to us of gratitude to tin* dispenser of
all blessing. To Him be all praise.
