EDITORIAL NOTES. The postponement of the Chatta¬ hoochee Valley Exposition will only insure a better exhibition at a time when people have more leisure to see it. It was well to put it off. The State Fair will he held atMa con from the 5th to the 10th of No vember. The citizens of Macon have subscribed twenty-five hundred dollars in addition to what they have already given, to insure its success, lt will be a splendid exhibition and will be very largely attended. Finan¬ cially the fair has been well managed and everybody who subscribes to the capitol stock can rest assured, under this record, that his money will he used so as to make the largest re turns. A toper in North Carolina last week killed himself with whiskey in a very peculiar way. He obtained an entrance into a distillery and mak¬ ing a syphon, one end of which he placed in a barrell of whiskey, he laid down on the floor on his back and sucked the other end. As soon as the flow* w r as started he allowed the stuff to literally fill him up and next morning he w as found dead, the liquor still running into his mouth from the barrel above. He present¬ ed a horrible sight. Col. J. M. Mobley, democratic presidential elector for the fourth congressional district will deliver an address in . the court house here next Tuesday at noon, upon the issues in¬ volved in the present campaign. Col. Mobley has waited at the request of Hon, Thomas TV. Grimes, democratic nominee for Congress, until now he fore beginning a canvass of the dis trict, that that gentleman might he with him. T he present session of congress is the longest in American history. T lu; next longest session was in 1850 when the Missouri compromise was consid ered and adopted. * * The mayor and council of Macon insist that the State Fair be held in November. They know a good thing when they see it. The Fair is worth thousands of dollars to Macon and they %} are loth to lose it. * * * The Chattahoochee Valley Exposi¬ tion begins November 15th and ends Dec. 1st. Harris county will make a county exhibit at it, and let every citizen of Harris belt) and success is certain. * * * Many of the papers of Georgia earnestly urge that the salary of the Governor he increased from $3000 to $5000 per annum, # * Hon. J. L. M'Curry, who recently resigned the office of Minister to Spain, and lias returned home, has been suggested for Chancellor of the HAMILTON, GA„ OCTOBER 5,1888.
