President Cleveland paid his re¬ spects to Me Lud Sackville, in a re¬ freshing style, in his message to con¬ gress. Our Grover is a big man any w ay you take him. President elect Harrison says that he must understand what the South¬ ern question is, before he can say he w r ill treat it. It gives us to propound it. In plain it is, “Shall the bottom rail placed on top ?” Owing to a misunderstanding all Harris was awarded no pre¬ at Columbus last week. In al¬ everything our directors found Hancock and Talbot were fa¬ to our detriment. It was our experienc and—experience comes Harris is a better county than or Talbot and the display, far as the space would allow, pro¬ it. Next time we shall go in to One of the cleverest men in Amer¬ ica is Editor Dennis, of the Hamilton Journal. We love him and he loves everybody in Talbot. He was born and reared in Talbot and we know it tickles him o the bottom of his heart when he remembers that Talbot has secured about $ 1,200 in premiums at fairs this fall.—Talbot ton New Era. Our brother is right. We are glad Talbot was given the second premium at Columbus. We are pouting because the judges gave the premium Harris was so justly entitled to to Hancock. Cataula Chat. Mr. Charlie Hamby and family have moved to Columbus. Mrs. James Worrill, of Talbotton.is visiting her parents, Judge Biggers and lady. Mrs. T. J. Thomaston went to Columbus Saturday to see the last of the exposition, also to look after her exhibits. Mrs. James Reeves, of Cuthbert, an old resident of Harris, has made a pleasant visit in our community ie cently, guest of Mr. J. VV. Biggers. Mis. HAMILTON, GA., DECEMBER 7,1888. Rev. Mr. Brewton’s horse ran away with him last week threw him from his buggy and he tell on a stump near the road side. He was considerably btuised up, but sustained no serious injury. We hope to see him out again soon. Judge J. W. Biggers has five hogs of the Poland China stock that will weigh four hundred pounds each besides other five hogs to kill. He c made a fine crop of potatoes o i a small plat of ground. He gatherd three hundred bushels besides leaving a good many for his hogs. If the farmers generally would imitate the Judge in raising their own supplies what good times we would have in our count/. Peace and plenty would be our watch word. We venture to say that Mr. N. P. Weldon has raised the finest flat dutch turnips of any one in the coun ty. They are huge and no mistake. We return thanks for some fine ones sent us. He is one of our successful farmers, and for the past four years it seems that everything prospers around him. He has one of the fin est plantations in our community, has a quantity of meat to kill ol bis own raising, besides raising a large crop of corn. His wife has saved about twelve pounds of collard seed. If you wish any seed you would do well to call on them, as we know they are fresh anc. all right. A Harris County Roy. Passing down Broad Street in Col umbus last week the Journal scribe was accosted by Capt. J. W. Murphy. He wanted to pay his subscription and after satisfying him with a receipt in full, with a seed coupon attached, he offered to show us through the new bank, of which he is to be the cashier. A bank is always a matter of inter est to an impecunious editor and we accepted 1 the offer with alacrity. \ Your country editor .. generally _ ,, accepts every thing offered him, from a mess of tur nip greens to a years subscription in advance.
