Death of J)v. T. Brooks.
Dr. T. J. Brooks died at his res¬
idence in Hamilton, very suddenly
Friday night last, about midnight.
He has bee \ feeble for several
I months and had retired from the ac
: tive practice of medicine
i several
j j ' years, but his death WdS a shock to
the entire community. Friday he
was in his usual health and went to
Columbus in the n.orning upon a
matter of business. In the afternoon
he returned, ate a hearty supper and
I retired, expressing no sense of diV
| comfort at the unusual fatigue and
; exposure of th.e day. He slept
soundly for tft - 0 h when he
awoke . with . . of . . the
a sense pain in
chest ’ The usual remedies, adminis
tered by his wife, failed to bring relief
an<1 she ° n the poiot of 5Ummon -
j n g medical aid when he fell into a
coma t ose and w hen Dr. J. O. Hunt,
who lives just across the steet, ar¬
rived, he was dead.
Dr Brooks was one of the most
prominent citizens of Hamilton. He
was not a public speaker and sought
no pub’io honors for himself, but was
f * b|| 1 ; rj ’ wbose tiwe
and pur e were ever at the , service of
a good cause. An exemplify raem
ber of the Methodist church, aii ,? e to
its everymieiest ana withal a con¬
secrated Christian, his deatfi is a blow
the force ol which only those most
intimately . . associated . with , him
m
church work can realize. But high
as he justly stood in the esteem of
ali as a public spirited man and
churchman, it was aj the head of "a
. irmly that the full force of the char¬
acter of Dr* Brooks as a citizen of
the highest type, won most esteem.
Ever affectionate and kind, yet firm
in his convictions, the wife of his
bosom knew only ot a growth of her
affection for him from the day their
froth was plighted, and the children
who have come to bless their union
>
by a home training which will ever
be to them a matter of worthy pride,
bid lair to become useful adjuncts of
society. How could they else with
such a parentage.
With the stricken family we bow in
sorrow. We mingle our tears with
tbiers. But we bless God for the
hope we have that we shall
meet in the great beyond, where
“death is swallowed up in victory.”
