Judge Andrews was presiding in the days before the Supreme court was established, and the verdict of the special jury taken from the grand jury list was final. Thus great interests attached to this trial. The caveat alledged war.t of testamentary capacity undue influ¬ ence and misrepresentation. A large number of witnesses were summoned ard were present. The case had excited great interest aud the court room was crowded. Now came the battle of the intellectual giants. Perfect order pie vailed and ev ery one seemed absorbed in the isstie. Witness after witness was ex¬ amined, points made and discussed, and rare ability shewn in every phase of the case. When the testimony was concluded eveiy inch of ground for either side had been fully ccutcst ed. Then came the argument, lu¬ minous, eloquent, pointed, incisive and convincing. Such speeches had rarely ever been hr aid, and when the jury retired the magic spell was scarcely broken and the remem¬ brance wil> ever remain. NO. 20. LETTER FROM CORDELE. Editor Journal: —Will you ob¬ ject to a word from “ he man from Dooly”? The last expression will be recognized by Journal read¬ ers as one often used to denote ignor¬ ance and verdancy. But can these words still be applied in the same sense, and how long will it will be be¬ fore it is recognized as an honor to be “the man from Dooly”? The Dooly of to-day and th * Dooly of a year ago would scarcely l >eak as they pass by. The developm nt has been rapid and substantial. T.iere is certainly no better illustration of this fact than the marvelous growth of Cordele, now the principal tv wn in the county. A few months ago the fors iken res¬ idence of Gov. Jos. E. Brown, sol¬ emn and gloomy behind its grove of oaks and cedars, was the onl ’ indica¬ tion that human habitation h id ever existed here. Now hundreds of dwel¬ lings, stores, hotels, mills, shops and houses of every description are here to evidence Dooly’s life and enthusi¬ asm. Cordele is situated at thejuctureof the Georgia Southern and Florid 1 and the Savanah, Americus and Mont¬ gomery railrc ads, sixty five miles south of Macon and thirty th eemiles east of Americus. On each of the -e roads hundred of sawmills, etiploying several thousand hands, have spuing up, as Cordele is the cent :r of trade every branch of business en paced in here is flourishing and pr isp trous. The Atlanta and Florida railroad and a road from Brunswick ate both heading for this magic city of th'v wiregrass” and with these means of rapid transportation for the immenij lumber business of Dooly Cordele w 1 grow to even geater proportions. The city has been beautifully laid off, shade trees have been set out on every street and everything done to bejuti fy and attract. Hundreds of lots have been sold and on many of them handsome res¬ idences have heen built. Vi eStimot i of 1,200 inkiditanU is apt to be lie low rather than above the actual }*> - illation. A handsome brick bank adorns one of the principal corners and the manufacturing enter piss's here are numerous and solid. But. enough.
