EDITORIAL NOTES.
Macon. Ga., claims to lie the resi¬
dence of the man who made the first
dynamo. He lost his reputation as
such as well as much money by not
attending to the patent.
The richest man in America has
come to the front in the person of
John D. Rockefeller of the Standard
Oil company with *129,000,000. He
i certainly a rockfell >w .tideed if fie
can hear up under such a load of
wealth as this.
A New England Dr. of Divinity in
writing on the negro problem asserts
lhat New England would “give to the
blnek manthe placewhichne could lion
estly command by right of character.
She would refuse him no such place
by reason of his color.” Should the
D D. be transported from his home
where the black man is scarcely ever
seen at all, to the south where he is
seen everywhere there would come a
change over his dreams lhat would
he radical in its nature.
It is the most difficult thing under
Heaven for a man to please himself
and at the same time meet the appro¬
bation of all others, who are at. all
interested in what lie does or concern¬
ed about him. This Mr. Harrison
has found out to his bitter grief. Har¬
rison wants men in high places that
will remember Harrison and work
for Harrison when the working time
rolls around again. But many
of his party are in the position to
want men in high places that will
either work for some one else, or dis¬
charge their honest obligation* to tin
government and leave Mr. Harrison
to lay his own plans for ’92.- It seems
that the President’s nomination of ex
Goveruor U'armoth for collector of
customs at New Orleans does not
luo-t with favor in the Senate.

Home Industry.
The Joukn'AL has more than once
urged that the capital in our immedi¬
ate vicinity should be centralized and
invested in such industries as would,
not onlv pay a handsome dividend,
but tend to the up-lmildiug of the
country around, and especially our
own town. We have urged upon our
young men especially that they unite
their means and build in our city a
cotton seed oil mill for the purpose of
consuming the cotton seed that are
) early shipped out of the country and
convert them into oil anil fertilizers
and thus keep the money expended
by our farmers at home, and let it
circulate in our midst. There are
quite a number of mills put in opera¬
tion in Georgia within the last few
years Unit are paying most handsome
dividends and giving employment to
a number of hands otherwise idle.
We would again appeal the onr ener¬
getic young men to think and act on
this line. We refer them to the re¬
port of the company operating to oil
mill at Conyers. This mill employs
a capital of only SlO.OOO and clear¬
ed forty per cent last year. Don t
listen to men who would attempt to
frighten you with the oil trust. Go
to work and ba ld the miil before it
is too late.
