Our Cemetary.
Hamilton has a beautiful cite for
a cemetary and her citizens should
take a pardonable pride in beauti
fying and adorning its grounds.
But what is every hody’s business
is nobody’s bnsness.
As we understand, the grounds
of the cemetary are the property of
the city, though they are free to
any one who may ch.diee to need
them for interment. No 4 charge
is made fur a lot, A person may
select a lot in any part of the cem
etary a ci turn his lot in any direc¬
tion of. the compass that may suit
his fancy. If he choose the middle
of the street or :oa;l there is no one
whose busini s it is to say no.
Now how would it do for the
council to take charge of the real
estate yet unoccupied and lay it
off into lots ef uniform size and fix
a price on these lots and sell them
as they do in the larger cities.
There is no more injustice in pay¬
ing for ground in which to burry
the dead than in paying the expen¬
ses of the undertaker.
By this means we w ould have a
fond for the pennauent improve¬
ment of the grounds, Wc could
easily set apart a portion for those
who are poverty stricken and una¬
ble to pay for a iot.
