The Atlanta Journal has for a long
time kept at the head of its editorial
page the financial plank of the Chicago
Democratic platform. The other day
one of our third party neighbors affirm
ed that 'the Atlanta Journal misquotes
the platform from day to day in this
standing quotation. Well it is not pos¬
sible for a Democrat to please a third
yv tv ,t- and it is useless for him to try.
On Thursday of last week. Sea¬
born Nutine’ee.-one of our subscrib¬
ers, and an old acquaintances, paid
the Journal office a pleasant call
and saw for the first time m his life
t’fc manner in which papers are
printed. Seaborn lids been living

there, He makes most of his sup¬
plies at home and is well thought
of both among his own people and
the whites who know him.
We had a pleasant call from Mr
L D. Hutchinson from near Union
Church Tuesday. Mr. Hutchinson
does not know anything about hard
times and is inclined to think that
it is more of a rl.mor going around
than anything else. Irish and
sweet potatoes never give out at
his house. His wife has a couple
of hogs that will Weigh about 600
pounds and she wants to make them
weigh one thousand by cold weath¬
er. Mr Hutchinson flunks every
man that can plow ought to be a
rich man. On one occasion he
marketed 60 bales of cotton and
got for them $7500.00 This crop
was made with five mti'es, which
was an average of $1500 to the
mnle. About this time he bought
a barrel of flour for $18, This was
the last flour he ever bought and
he thinks that if all the farmers
would raise their supplies, cotton
would sell for double its present
price. He remarked by the way
that it would br.ak any man in the
world to hold his cotton, if he
would hold it long enough.

old sufferer from inflammatory rheuma¬

into Wisconsin, and consequently has

again very acute and severe,” he said.

l ast Sunday in company with
Mr T ^V’ Fortson, of Fortsou, we
worshipped hi the first Bapt’st
church of Goli.mhus and heard for
the first time their new pastor, Rev.
W. H Smith.
The preacher re id the epiflle of
Jude and took for Lis text the l3tb.
verse of Jude. “Raging waves of
the sea, foaming out their own
shame; wandering stars, to whom
is reserved the blackness of dark
ness forever”.
Many and varied are the express
ions in the scriptures used to de¬
scribe the wicked. The speaker
enumerated a good many of these
expressions -
The w:cited are like description
given in the text.
1 — In the r futi'e efforts against
tho church of Christ and against
God himselsf
2— In the fact that they carry
within their own bosoms the eli
ments of destruction’
3 — In their utter helpless and
hopleless doom. right
Rev. Mr. Smith plumgd*
into his subject from the very begin
ning and is a forcible and energetic
speaker.
Last Sunday he was about to
wind np a series of meetings which
have been very profitable to the
church,
At f he conclusion of the sermon
the door of the church was opened
and two joined by letter and two
experience, and one came up and
confessed Christ, but was not pre¬
pared to join. The two that joined
by experience were the little daugh¬
ters of Mayor Slade. The hand of
Christian fellowship was extended
to all t :ese five.
