The Russell (A Is.) Uegstcr has
th r to *av of two p ragraphs that
appeared in a lecent issue of our pa
per:
“The esteerael Hamilt n Jour¬
nal seems to have been engaged In
archaeological researches in Russell
county. In the last issue of that in¬
teresting paper we find these two
paragraphs which will be of interest
to the readers of the Register. We
do not know to whom either of the
paragraphs refer and vrou’d respect¬
fully; request Journal to throw a
little light on the subject for our bene¬
fit.”
These items were collected on a
recent trip to liussell county, by Rev.
G. D. Benton, of this place. The no
grGss, Mr. Benton tells us lives on a
place owned by Mrs. Nancy Harden
five miles west of Columbus, and the
rocker is owned by Mrs. Louis Lam¬
bert who lives sir. miles south-west of
the same city. Here are the para¬
graphs referred to:
In Russell county, in our sister
state, there is a lady who was raised
and married in our own f tate and
county, who has a rocking chair
which has been in use, more than a
hundred years. It has been recently
newly dressed up so as to present a
very youthful appearance.
There is a negress in Russell coun¬
ty, Alabama, who is said by those of
their own color to be 130 years old.
Her white neighbors say they do not
know her age, but declare she has a
very ancient appearance.
