to attend the bedside of her mother
who is lying very low with consump¬
tion at her home in White Plains.
Mr. J. D. Moye has in his posses¬
sion an iron wedge which was brought
by hi* father from North Carolina
before the Indian war about 1833^
and the wedge ia a* good today as it
ever was. Mr. Moye says-this i* the
only property he ever inherited.

wedge that he and a brother divided
between thtra. If a neighbor wants
to borrow this wedge, he tells him he
will charge him ten dollars if it gets
lost.

well received by a large audience.

there is in Macon. The people do
not move from Bibb county to Ma¬
con to educate their, children.
He advocate the building of school
houses when necessary out of the
public funds.
The negroes he advised to keep
out of politics and stick to their white
friends.
The court has been moving along
nicely this week with the civil cases.
At this writiing Thursday morning,
it is thought that court will wind up
this week. The criminal docket was
taken up this morning.
Rev. Park Jones and wife, of La
Grange have been among friends and
relatives here this week.

On last Friday Prof. J. R. Dykes,
of Marshalville, on hi* personal, ap¬
plication, was elected to take charge
of the West Ga. A. & M. College and
fill the unexpired term.
Prof. Dykes is a graduate of Emo¬
ry College and has had considerable
experience in teaching. lie is un¬
married and young—scarcely twenty
one years of ago—modest and unas¬
suming in bis manners.
We bespeak for him the hearty eo
operations of the patron, and hope:
that every pupil will bo continued ;
throughout the term,

Prof. J. M. Layfield made a sundi¬

the rooms so that all the teachers can
consult it when they are not certain

chards here last Wednesday night to

Mr. J. W. Caldwell on his bicycle
rode three miles out in the country
last Fri lay, spent 10 minutes in ma¬
king a call and returned to town in
less than one hour.
Several of the officials of the Cen¬
tral passed up the road last Thurs¬
day, we suppose en a tour of inspec
viau. Among them were Receiver
Lowry and Superintendents Cline and
jfoyes. They stopped in Cbipley
foi a short time on their return, and
Supt. Moyes viewed the park and
promised to assist us lr, any way ho

There are two new gatues being
played very successfully here at ;nes
eut. One is confined to the gentle¬
men alone and from what we can
learn is played this way. There is a

then another has it. Whoever suc¬
ceeds in telling the biggest story, in

he is excelled by some one else. Thus

this to develop their imaginative pow¬

There was a delightful entertain¬
ment at the homo of Mr. and Mrs
T. T M a crab last Friday evening giv
en by Mines T. T. llui rah and L. E.
Floyd to their assistants in the park
entertainment*. These ladies feeling
grateful for the assistance of those
who helped to make their park en¬
tertainment enjoyable and contribu¬
ted to then aueeesg, wish to show
their appreciation and did it in this
way. It was a most pleasant occasion.
There was some very fine music fur¬
nished by several of those present.
Delicious ice cream and cake was
