very quick and easv confinement. Ao -

was usual for me. I think it a medicine
that should be u«ed by f very expectant

Removing Ilalrs by Electricity.
Dr. Leviseur, who has made a special
study of the removal of superfluous hairs
by electricity, is of opinion that the best
Tesults are obtained by allowing the pa¬
tient himself to close and interrupt the
current by pressure on the electrode at¬
tached to the positive pole. If the
needle be introduced into the hair folli¬
cle and the current closed, twenty
seconds will suffice to destroy the hair,
which will be found to be perfectly
loose, and which should be removed at
once by lorceps. The operation is not
by any means a comfortable one, but
there are few patients it who object to a
second treatment when is necessary. A
twenty per cent, salve of cocaine in lan¬
olin, thoroughly rubbed into the skin,
enables even very sensitive patients to
undergo the operation with compara¬
tively little pain. As a rule, fifty to one
hundred hairs are removed at one sitting,
and the sittings are renewed at intervalsof
a week or ten days. The proportion of
hairs that start a new growth is greatly
dependent should on the skill of the operator,
but they not be more than five or
ten per cent. Immediately after the
operation the patient’s face is washed
with hot water and alcohol, and an anti¬
septic ointment is applied. It is found
advisable to extract only the coarser and
more deeply seated hairs and to leave
the lanugo hairs alone. Dr. Leviseur
strongly endorses this system and says
that not only will it prove an absolute
remedy but that no perceptible scar will
be left after the healing process is com¬
pleted.—[New York Commercial Adver¬
tiser.
Wiikn a sailing master wishes to buy
oysters in the ports of the Chesapeake
he runs up to the masthead an oyster
basket, and presently has plenty offered
at the vessel’s side. Down at Chinco-
teague island the basket at the masthead
is sometimes accompanied by a flag of
concentric squares in different colors
During the closed season for oysters the
basket and flag indicate that the master
wishes to buy dams. The Chincoteague
clam digger works during the greater
part of the year, and a very spry man in
a spot where clams are thick can tread
out a great many hundred in a dav.
Clams fetch from $1 to $1. 50 per 1,000
