Good bye, Jimmie, good bye. "MURDER ON THE AGENCY RESERVED. OLD MAN DO^V WALKER, SHOT AND KILLED BY UNKNOWN PARTIES. * THEY WANTED MONEY. News was brought here last Wednesday night of the murder of old ! man Dow Walker, a very highly respected and well to do negro who runs Mrs, M. B. Walker’s and her sis¬ ter’s Miss Bell Gibson’s planta¬ tion situated on the Indian Agen¬ cy Reserve, about eight miles west of Roberta on Flint river. Geo. James, one of Walker’s hands, says, he was on the place yesterday evening, and left Daw Walker’s house about dusk. Dan Litha and Ran Bell (remained at Walker’s house. James said, as he was going toward Lawson Biv en’s house, he met a man in the road who inquired where the neaest grocery was and he (James) answered him and said there was none there. He was then asked who lived there and if they want¬ ed to hire any hands, to which he replied Dow Walker lived there and wanted to hire a hand. The man also asked if Walker was good pay master and if he paid by the week or month, and if he was worth anything. James answer¬ ed yes. The man said be lived in Charleston S. C. He (asked James if he could spend the night with him. James said he was go¬ ing to Fayetts. He said he would go with him but when opposite a barn on the place the murderer stepped aside for something. They went on and met Fayette, a negro living in th« neighborhood with a colored woman. Fayette and James came on to Walker’s honse and the stranger followed to the gate. Stopping there, he asked James to tell Walker to come out, that he wanted to see him. James passed around the house and entered the stove ro„m and went on into the front room and told Walker some one want¬ ed to see him. Walker asked who the man was, and where he was from, after which Walker went to the front gate to see him. James went with him a nd found two men at the gate who bade them good evening and then drew their guns and demanded Dow’s money or his life. J ames started back, but one of the men cursed him and told him to halt. One of the men stepped to the front and the other to the rear of Walker and James and ordered the: to go into the house. They .. room* the first man crossed and fastened the rear door, and said again to. Walker, your money or your life. Ran Bell who was seated by the fireplace arose, but was ordered to sit down. Walk¬ er told the men he had no money in the house, just then the man in the front [door shot James in the arm while attempting to shoot Walker. Walker turned around and was shot in .the knee and fell to the floor. James ran otit the back way and was shot at several times. After Walker fell he was shot in the head above the ear, and according to Dr. Kinney, the ball passed downward into the regions of the heart and produced his death. Ran Bell in escaping was shot in the side, causing a painful wound, but not thought a very serious one. In passing a neighboring house, after leaving the scene of their devilish work, one of the men shot at a colored woman who was in the yard cut¬ ting wood, the bullet struck the axe and did no harm. Many coujectures are made as to the cause of the killing. We are of the opinion that it was sole¬ ly to rob. Because nothing was taken is no evidence of .their not to rob. It is very nat after killing Walker and the other men escaping, that the murderers, would bacome fright¬ ened and leave. Some think the murderers were white men black¬ ed and others are of opinion they were simon pure slick black lardy negroes. Notice to Creditors and Debtors.
