Was Salvation Possible During B.C. Era ?
According to biblical
reckoning, the world has
existed for roughly 6,000
years: 4000 years before
Christ and 2000 years after
Christ. The first 4000 years
are designated B.C. (Before
Christ) and the last 2000
years, A.D. (Anno Domini).
During the 1650 years
following Adam’s creation
(circa 2350 B.C), mankind
became so evil that God
destroyed the earth. He
flooded the planet with water
until all human life was
extinguished. Only eight
people were spared: Noah,
his wife, his three sons
and their wives. After the
waters subsided, the Creator
repopulated the earth with
Noah’s descendants, yet
ensuing generations proved
that man was hopelessly
lost in sin and the human
experiment had failed. Thus,
the decision was made in
the Council of Heaven to
send a Redeemer who could
atone for man’s sins. That
Redeemer was Jesus Christ,
the sinless Son of God. It
was Jesus’ divine blood
spilled on Calvary’s cross
that paid the penalty for the
sins of the entire human
race.
Since Jesus came so late
in history, did millions
of people who lived and
died during the 4000 years
before Christ’s birth go to
hell? If so, this innumerable
caravan included Adam and
Eve, Methuselah, Noah,
Abraham, Moses, Job,
David, and Solomon plus
philosophers such as Plato
and Aristotle, sovereigns
like Julius Caesar and
Cleopatra, military conquers
the caliber of Napoleon and
Hannibal, and religious men
like Buddha and Confucius.
The foregoing individuals
passed from this life, never
knowing Christ or hearing
God’s plan of salvation.
Theologians ask: “Why
did God wait 4000 years
before sending Jesus Christ
to earth?” or better yet,
“Why didn’t Jesus come
early in history while Adam
and Eve were still alive?”
No human can second guess
God, but Galatians 4:4 offers
an explanation. It states that
God sent His Son in the
“fullness of time.” In other
words, Jesus came to earth
at the most propitious time
in human history.
A lingering question
remains: “How will those
who died before Christ
be judged?” Romans
4:3 provides the answer.
It states that “Abraham
believed God, and it
was counted to him as
righteousness.” Abraham’s
faith was displayed when
he responded to God’s call
to leave his homeland and
travel to the Promised Land.
Abraham trusted God’s
promise to create from his
descendants a mighty nation
even though Sarah was old
and barren. Through blind
faith Abraham obeyed
God’s command to prepare
his son, Isaac, for sacrifice.
Because of Abraham’s
life of faith, he is named
alongside Isaac, Jacob,
Joseph, Moses, David, and
others in the “Honor Roll
of the Faithful” in Hebrews,
chapter 11. Therein it states
the honorees “died in faith,
not having received what
was promised, but having
seen it and greeted it from
afar.” Thus, salvation was
achieved by those in the

B.C. era who “believed
God” and “walked with
God”—a prime example
being Enoch who “walked
with God” and was
transported to heaven.
In closing, the Bible states
that “Faith is the assurance
of things hoped for, the
conviction of things not
seen.” More importantly, it
affirms that “Without faith
it is impossible to please
God.” Abraham’s foresight
in looking forward “to a city
whose maker and builder
is God” was confirmed
centuries later by Jesus when
He said, “Abraham rejoiced
to see my day, and he saw it
and was glad.”

Stop,
Look,
Listen
One of the ways God
solves our problems is by
teaching us to listen for His
voice, pointing out where
we have taken a wrong
turn. There are times when
we do not stop, look, and
listen. Instead, we take
things into our own hands.
Sometimes God will place
people in our lives to
help us but we didn’t stop
long enough to listen to
instructions.
We are often in a hurry
never listening to the voice
of God and run straight into
trouble and then want God
to bail us out.
God makes it clear that
He wants us to go in a
certain direction, and we
take another route. He says
go east and we say go west.
He says go north and we go
south. In fact, most of our
problems come as a result of
not obeying the Lord. When
we stop, look, and listen we
will get great results.
Maybe it’s not time to
get a new car or house
or to leave your job.
God is saying to listen;
acknowledge Him and He
will direct your path. It
seems as if everybody is in a
hurry; even me; everything
is rush, rush. Some problems
can be avoided if we would
only stop, look, and listen
and stop taking matters
into our own hands instead
of putting things into the
Master’s hand. Remember,
God is always at work.
We might not see or feel
Him but He’s there. So let
us begin to stop, look, and
listen. Be Blessed!
