Windows: give them justice!
When one speaks of "win
dows” we can never be sure
of their plunge unless there
is hint to subject matter.
Windows is a program on
the computer emanating
from Silicon Valley! Win
dows are also made of glass,
(or perhaps just a space in
the wall) with each serving
the purpose of being trans
parent for an open vision.
Then again, “windows” apply
to the calendar, and if you
have checked lately, that
keeper of schedules is clos

2018 will have become his

Star over Bethlehem
In “the fullness of time,” the
Savior was bom. A bright star
signaled His birth. Wise men
(called Magi) from Babylon
were astrologers who watched
the night skies for the star that
would signal the birth of Israel’s
new King. After seeing it, they
set out to Jerusalem. They had
two choices: (1) travel directly
across the Arabian Desert or
(2) proceed northward along
the Euphrates River, then cut
across Syria to the Jordan River
and travel southward to Jeru
salem. A camel could survive
on little water and cover 25-30
miles a day.
Tradition says there were
three wise men because they
presented three
gifts to the Christ
Child. In all
likelihood, there
may have been
a dozen or more
people in the
caravan. A se
curity detail was
needed to deal
with thieves and
robbers. Others
would carry provisions and
prepare food.
The arduous journey from
Babylon to Israel would require
about 60 days by camel. Once
the wise men arrived in Jerusa
lem, they were summoned by
King Herod. The king’s priests
consulted Micah 5:2 and said
the new king would be bom in
Bethlehem. After departing, the
wise men tracked the star to a
house in Bethlehem—ev
idently the moving star
was a supernatural
light. The wise men
entered the house,
worshipped the Christ
Child, and presented
Him with gifts of
gold, frankincense
and myrrh. Being di
vinely warned, they didgj||y Powell
not return to Herod,
but departed by another way.
An angel also appeared to
the shepherds. In 1949 at Perry

play, Sherrill Stafford as narra-

“And it
came to pass
in those days,
that there
went out a decree from Caesar
Augustus, that all the world
should be taxed. And Joseph
also went up from Galilee, out
of the city of Nazareth, into
Judea, unto the city of David,
which is called Bethlehem (be
cause he was of the lineage of
David) to be taxed with Mary
his espoused wife, being great
with child. And while they were
there, the days were accom
plished that she should
be delivered. And she
broughtforth her first
born son, and wrapped
him in swaddling
clothes, and laid him in
a manger; because there
was no room for them in
the inn. And there were
in the same country
shepherds abiding in
the field, keeping watch
over their flock by night. And,
lo, the angel of the Lord came
upon them, and the glory of the
Lord shone round about them:
and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them,
Fear not: for, behold, I bring
you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is bom this day
in the city of David a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord. And
this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped
in swaddling clothes, lying in a
manger.’ And suddenly there
was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host praising
God, and saying, ‘Glory to God
in the highest, and on earth
peace, good will toward men.’”
