THE GEORGIA POST 3
We’ve been shaken
The Coronavirus has cast a pall
of fear across the entire world.
Over 180 countries have become
infested by the vims. Most
people, especially the elderly, are
confined to their homes. Grocery
shoppers should wear a mask and
gloves. Stores and restaurants
beginning to reopen must
enforce safe distancing
between customers.
In Noah’s time, God
became so angry with
man’s wickedness drat He
destroyed the world with
a great dood. The rain
fell for 40 days until it
rose above the highest
mountain peaks. Sadly,
our world today may be
more cormpt than it was in
Noah’s time.
The invasion of Coronavirus is
suggestive of the deterrent God
released against King Sennach
erib’s Assyrian army as it readied
to destroy Jerusalem and its
inhabitants. God sent an angel
who killed Sennacherib’s forces.
When the sun arose, 185,000
Assyrian troops lay dead outside
the city walls. Some conjecture
that God’s angel released a lethal
vims to slay them.
Since businesses nationwide
have closed to slow the spread
of the virus, Congress recently
passed economic stimulus bills
for taxpayers and businesses
amounting to over three trillion
dollars. Additionally, the Federal
Reserve pumped an addition
al four trillion dollars into the
economy. Making matiers worse,
our federal deficit was already
approaching a dangerous level at
23 trillion dollars. Can tins coun
try pay the exorbitant interest
on the massive deficit, or will the
huge national debt precipitate a
recession and ultimately sink our
economy?
Many believe the Coronavirus
PONDERINGS
Billy Powell
is die worst crisis America has
faced. Small businesses and big
corporations have shut down.
Millions of workers don’t have
jobs. Reduced demand has forced
famers to leave produce in the
fields and to pour out milk. Viral
infestations have shuttered meat
processing plants. Grocery
shelves remain partially
bare due to shopper
hoarding. Churches
have closed their doors.
Schools and colleges
have discontinued
classes and resorted
to on-line instruction.
Surgeries have been
delayed due to hospital
overcrowding. Without
barbers and beauti
cians, the hair of men
and women is growing long. The
startup dates for the basketball,
football, and baseball seasons
maybe postponed. Families are
sequestered in their homes and
suffer with cabin fever.
At tins writing, the coronavi
rus has infected over a million
Americans (one-third of world’s
total) with a death rate approach
ing 60,000 (more than Vietnam
War). President Tramp has plans
in place to reopen the economy in
stages and ultimately to put the
nation back to work. Let’s pray
it works and the virus doesn’t
rebound.
What is God saying to us?
It may be tins: “If my people,
who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will
hear them from heaven, and I
will forgive their sin and will heal
their land.”

Helter Skelter update
It has now been fifty one
years since the embarkation
of a dastardly (and homi
cidal) group of the Charles
Manson “family” committed
a hideous massacre in Holly
wood, California. On August
9,1969, four members of
Manson’s group brutally
slaughtered Abigail Folger
(heir to the Folger coffee
fortune), actress Sharon Tate
(married to producer Roman
Polanski, hair stylist Jay
Sebring, Voytek Frykowski
(common law companion to
Miss Folger, and Steven Par

no robbery—only animalis
tic and ruthless acts of
insanity. Helter Skelter
was so named for the
unthinkable escapade
of Manson’s entou
rage—and later the title
of a book by the District
Attorney.
The totally crazed
minds, under the
influence of Manson,
consisted of Charles
Watson, Susan Atkins,
Patricia Krenwinkle, and Les
lie van Houten. (One Manson
disciple, Squeaky Fromme,
who was not with the group
of drop outs, prostitutes,
nonconformists,
and criminals with
lengthy records of
innumerable mis
deeds. Under the
highly competent
leadership of District
Attorney Vincent Bu-

of litigation lasted more than

The followers of Man-
son were many—a mixture
of Leno and Rosemary La
Bianca (also in Hollywood);
owners of a grocery chain;
and once more committed
the vicious murder of both
husband and wife. There was
Angeles District. Each were
adamantly committed to the
perpetual confinement of the
defendants. (Though living in
Georgia, we were actually in
Los Angeles on August 8—one
day before the crime.)
As of the first days of
2020, we are reminded
that Charles Manson died
in prison on November 19,
2017; as did Susan Atkins,
of brain cancer, on Septem
ber 24, 2009. Leslie Van
Houten, Patricia Krenwin
kle, and Charles Watson
remain incarcerated in the
Prison system—after a half
century—with little, or no
chance, for parole. The entire
scenario, unthinkable by
any stretch, is a challenge to
nationwide law enforcement
and psychologists. The hid
eous crimes were completely
off the charts. That our great
nation—with all the opportu
nities and liberties abound
ing—could play host to an
assortment of inconsiderate
and dysfunctional souls, is
far above the pay grade of the
wisest among us.
