THE GEORGIA POST 3
Wind, sea and
demons obey Him
Jesus had just crossed the
Sea of Galilee by boat. While
at sea, a storm arose and
threatened to capsize the boat
The disciples became fearful
and summoned Jesus who
was in the stern, asleep
on a pillow. The Savior
rebuked the winds and
said to the sea: “Peace,
be still.” Suddenly, the
winds ceased and the
sea became calm. The
disciples exclaimed,
“Even the wind and sea
obey Him.”
When the boat arrived
at the region of Gadara,
Jesus walked ashore
and soon encountered a
demon-possessed man. The de
moniac was known for walking
among the burial tombs, crying
out and cutting his body. Once,
the townspeople bound the
man with shackles and chains,
but he broke them and contin
ued to spook the people. He
represented the most feared,
diabolical character imaginable,
a man to fear and avoid.
The demoniac approached
Jesus and screamed with a loud
voice: “Jesus, Son of the Most
High God, what do you want
with me? I beg you, please do
not torment me.” Jesus then
shouted a command to exorcise
the demon, saying: “Evil Spirit,
come out of this man!” Then
the Master asked, “What is your
name?” The demon within the
man answered, “My name is
Legion, for we are many.” The
demon then begged Jesus not
to send them away.
At the time, 2,000 pigs were
feeding on the nearby hillside.
The demons, knowing there

was no refusal to Jesus’ com
mand, begged Him to let them
enter into the pigs. In response
to their request, Jesus permit
ted the demons to enter the
pigs. Suddenly, the pigs
rushed violently down
the steep cliff into
the lake below and
drowned. Why did the
pigs suddenly bolt and
run? Obviously, the
demons instinctively
wanted to get away
from Jesus.
The men who fed
the pigs came to see
what had happened.
Upon arrival, they
were astonished to
see the once demon-possessed
man, calmly sitting down, fully
clothed, and in his right mind.
The keepers of the pigs pleaded
with Jesus to leave their region.
As Jesus returned to the boat,
the healed man requested to
go with Him. Jesus responded,
“Go home and tell your friends
what the Lord had done for
you.”
Are people today demon-pos
sessed? Based upon Jesus
being actively engaged with
demons it times in the gospels,
demon-possession could be a
reality. Movies have been made
about demon-possession such
as “The Exorcist” which many
have seen. The good news is
that Satan or the Devil has been
defeated through Jesus’ atoning
death on Calvary’s Cross. The
Evil One’s fate awaits him in
the “Lake of Burning Fire”
(Rev. 20:10).

The origin of Patriotism
It is amazing how the
average citizen defines
Patriotism, and how they
have tagged feats and favors
which surround commend
able conduct.
Without lengthy commen
tary, most would surmise
that such events take place
on the spur of a moment—
-when unexpected (or dire)
circumstances come about-
—and when one is forced to
make immediate decisions.
To conclude that a person
makes such a momentous
choice abruptly upon con
frontation of danger or peril,
is largely a stretch, and miss
es the underlying frontiers
of preparation for such an
occasion. It is true that we
are reminded of National
foundations of cornerstones
which have been strategical
ly placed—that ensure a safe
and secure survival, and we
do not sell that knowledge
short, but such knowledge
is rudimentary and does
not guide the individual to
exemplary deeds.
If heroism (self sacrifice)
was born in moments of
stress—the award for such
would be void of meaning.
As we catalogue the
list of renown men
and women who have
accentuated arenas of
danger, with feats that
make the marquee,
we are made to know
that such willingness
did not come about
instantaneously;
but was gelled into a
lifetime of character,
based squarely upon
standards and deeds set
forth by others; and of which
lessness.

teachers. CCS is losing too
many talented teachers/indi-
viduals.
To help improve student
achievement, it is imperative
that substitute teachers are
trained in effective classroom
management. Perhaps, substi
tute teacher pay should be in
creased to attract more retired
teachers and highly motivated
individuals to carry out lesson
plans during teachers’ ab
sences. Provide or increase
teacher incentives to reduce
teacher absenteeism; c) Build
leadership capacity within
system: Acknowledge, utilize,
and promote the talents that
we already have within our
system; d) Increase student
achievement initiatives (e.g.,
increase focus on reading liter
acy, increase graduation rates,
decrease dropout rates from
current levels), and address
students’ needs holistically
from PK-12 grade levels; e)
More emphasis placed on
safety, (e.g., school buildings
& system facilities- increased
safety measures), and contin
ued monitoring of order and
discipline protocols; and f) In
creased parental and commu
nity involvement/partnerships
with the schools.
The challenges/issues we
face are not unique to the CCS
system. They are prevalent
throughout many rural school
systems within the Unit
ed States. At CCS, we have
some of the most talented
and dedicated teachers and
administrators anyone could
ask for. Most of our students
are committed to achieving ac
ademic excellence. Personally,
I am proud of the efforts/com-
mitments our administrators,
educators, students, and com
munity members are demon
strating to ensure our students
achieve academic success in
order to be competitive in
the 21st century workforce
and meet societal demands.
Together, we must continue to
strive for excellence!
