THE GEORGIA POST 3
It was wrong, wrong!
In 1943,1 was a third grader
at the Perry School. The school
sat across Main Street from
the First Baptist Church. I was
playing outside when class
members started running
toward the east side of school
grounds. Upon arriving, a
fight was underway. A
smaller boy was being
held on the ground and
pummeled by an older
and stronger boy. The
older boy was hitting
the weaker boy with his
fists. All the victim could
do was to grimace with
each blow, as red welts
swelled on his face and
blood trickled down his
nose.
The older boy contin
ued to hit the helpless boy. It
went on and on. I wanted to
help the boy undergoing the
unmerciful beating, but I was
too young and too small. After
several minutes, I had stood all
I could handle and had to walk
away. Today, I still remember
that one-sided fight. It is vividly
etched into my memory.
On 25 May, I saw the same
unmerciful thing taking place.
This time it was spotlighted on
national television. A police
man had his knee on the neck
of a handcuffed man whose legs
were being held down by two
other officers as a fourth looked
on. The handcuffed man was
an African-American who was
slowly being killed; his carotid
arteries could no longer pass
blood to his brain. Spectators
repeatedly pleaded with the
policeman to get off the man,
but he refused. A video was
made of the offending officer
and showed to the nation. The
PONDERINGS
Billy Powell
officer appeared satanic; his
sunglasses resembled horns
growing from his head.
This event sparked protest
marches in Minnesota. Then
it spread to metropolitan cities
like New York, Chicago, Los
Angeles, Atlanta, etc. The
marches deteriorated
into looting and burn
ing. The retributive
destruction no longer
applied to the killing
of George Floyd—the
criminal rioters want
ed to tear down this
country, even desecrat
ing its churches. Once
that was accom
plished, what would
they have gained?
Business owners had
nothing to do with the killing,
yet are forced to shut down
their enterprises. It will take a
decade to regain what has been
lost. Most people of all races
eschew this type behavior.
Can our democracy stand?
Although the mighty Roman
Empire lasted over 400 years,
the United States is nearing
its 244th year as a democratic
republic. Our bicameral govern
ment isn’t working, the judicial
system is slow and ineffective,
and its people are rioting in
the streets. Is America being
punished? First, the pandemic
hit. Now, the rioting, looting
and burning are plaguing the
nation. God destroyed the world
of Noah because it had become
too evil. The only tiring that
can help us now is found in the
words of 2 CHRONICLES 7:14!

Israels 1967 war
Humanity has been en
gaged in battle intermittent
ly since day one!
Some wars are rather brief-
—others lengthy; some even
last a hundred years. Isra
el’s 1967 War with Egypt,
Jordan, Iraq (and other), in
border disputes, was per
haps the shortest in history.
Israel’s forces were led by
Defense Minister Moshe
Dayan, a tactician of great
expertise. Granted their in
dependence in 1948, the tiny
nation was forced to defend
that independence on a daily
basis. That God was on their
side was an obvious feature
. I was complet
ing my twentieth
year with the U.S.
Navy—and obvi
ously somewhat
familiar with
armed aggres
sion-observed
that their victory
over opposing
forces was noth
ing short of a miracle.
Those that are familiar
with Middle east history,
remember that Israel’s many
battles date back hundreds
of years. We may never
really understand the unique
relationship that the
nation has with God
(or why) —but on
each armed adven
ture, Israel generally
“walked away with the
marbles”. This was
in short order; but leaving
him with an enlarged ter
ritory. He ordered
the Straits of Tiran
closed to Israeli
traffic, well aware
that such would be
considered an act
of war; requiring
a retaliation. He

President Nasser ordered
all the UN Troops out of
Sinai—knowing that in event
of armed conflict, the UN
would arrange a cease fire
the hours ahead.
In placing the blame, all
peripheral powers used the
rule of “first shots fired”.
Closing the Straits was tan
tamount to firing the
first shots, and they
would pay dearly.
Over eight hun
dred Egyptian
tanks were already
in Sinai, along
with thousands
of artillery pieces.
Jordan, Syria, and
Iraq readied their
reserves. On the morning
of June 5,1967, the Israe
li Airforce launched 347
aircraft against Egypt—de
stroying 300 planes—some
seventy percent of Egypt’s
tally. While they were busy,
the other countries began
attacks.
Israel diverted some of
their force, destroying half
of Syria’s air arm and one
hundred percent of Jordan’s
Air Force of twenty eight
planes.
80,000 Egyptian troops
were challenged in Sinai
where a vast portion died.
Some four thousand Egyp
tian tanks he buried in the
sands of Sinai to this day.
On June 9, all leaders
in the Egyptian Military
resigned! President Nasser
resigned the next day. The
war was over, and Israel
was victor in just six day; a
surprise to the entire world.
It would pay the present
enemies of Israel to “talk a

wife— dined a table away,
from Moshe Dayan, in Hong
