THE GEORGIA POST 3
On the distant shore
Since the human body is not
made for immortality, most
people are puzzled about death.
No human fully understands
it. But this we do know- our
eternal destiny is solely in God’s
loving hands. No person can
reach out to you once you
cross over to the other
side.
The Apostle Paul
described being trans
ported to heaven: “I was
caught up into heaven.
Whether I was in my
body or out of my body,
I do not know, but God
knows. I heard inexpress
ible things that cannot
be told or uttered.” Paul
further testified that he was
tom between departing and
being with Christ and staying
here to continue his labors.
The patriarch Abraham looked
forward to a city whose maker
and builder was God. Job states
that God’s throne is ‘up there’
beyond the stars.
My grandfather Powell told
me that he passed out one day
while working in the hot sun.
He was doing carpentry work
around the house and became
overheated. He sat down in a
swing to cool off and rest. He
suddenly grew light-headed
and fainted. While uncon
scious, Granddaddy was
transported to a place of inde
scribable beauty where peaceful
music filled the air. Before his
eyes was a panoramic scene of
unimaginable splendor. When I
asked Granddaddy for more de
tails, he responded that words
were incapable of describing
what he had seen. He would
PONDERINGS
Billy Powell
only say, “I believe I went to
heaven.” This made an indeli
ble impression on granddaddy,
which endured for the rest of
his life.
The Revelator John wrote
that in heaven, there would be
no sadness, no pain, no
crying, no sorrow, and
no death. He added
that God and Jesus
would be there, and
there would be no
need for a sun or moon
because the glory of
God would illuminate
heaven. Excerpts from
the famous song “The
Distant Shore” read:
“It all became so
lovely...those bluest skies above
me...those funny feelings I had
never felt...so many colors I had
never seen.”
Paul wrote in I Corinthians
6:9-10 that ten categories of
sinners will be excluded from
heaven: “Neither fornicators,
nor idolaters, nor adulter
ers, nor homosexuals, nor
sodomites, nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners will
inherit the kingdom of God”
Jesus said, “In My Father’s
house are many mansions. I
go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go, I will come again
and receive you to myself, so
that where I am, you will be
also.” How can we get there?
Jesus said, “I stand at the door
of your heart and knock. If any
person opens the door, I will
come in and be with him.

As my wife, son, and I
landed in Bangkok, Thailand
in 1974, the unbearable
odor of burning bodies filled
the air. The “company in

Bible Notes
Malachi 3:10
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse,
that there may be food in my house. Test
me in this,” says the LORD Almighty,“and
see if I will not throw open the floodgates of
heaven and pour out so much blessing that
there will not be room enough to store it.
