New inert landfill opens Tuesday, July 8th
BY VICTORIA SIMMONS
The Georgia Post
Crawford County’s new
inert landfill located on
Jackson Road will open
Wednesday, July 8, 2020 af
ter receiving Environmental
Protection Division (EPD)
approval to accept waste.
Except for the engineering
part, all work was done by
county employees to keep
costs down. Joey Sims took
care of the construction
which from start to finish
took about five months. This
landfill is estimated to last at
least 50 years.
Monitoring reports will
have to be sent to EPD on a
quarterly basis and there are
monitoring wells at the site.
Hours for the landfill will
be Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. If
you have stuff to take, stop at
the hut where a mathemat
ical equation will be used to
determine tonnage and you
will be directed to the ramp
to unload by the attendant.
Price is $45 a ton and under
a ton is $10. You do not have
to be from Crawford County
to use the landfill.
Lumber cannot be put in
the landfill, however, earth,
limbs, leaves, yard trim
mings, concrete and cured
asphalt are allowed.
If you have questions
concerning the landfill call
Jessica Wiggins, clerk at the
Board of Commissioner’s Of
fice, 478-836-3782 and she
will be glad to help you.
