THE GEORGIA POST 3
Look and Pray Before
You Leap
The divorce rate in this
country has been rising for
decades. In fact, it is now over
40 percent and climbing. Bev
erly and I are the exceptions.
We met in 1956 and got
married 10 weeks later.
We have been mar
ried for 64 years and
counting—a true love
story. Two years later
in 1958 our first son,
Bill, was born. In 1964,
Tim came into the
world. We are bless
ed with five achieving
grandchildren and two
wonderful daughters-in
-law.
Extreme caution is encour
aged for any couple contem
plating marriage as many
unsuspecting things can derail
a marriage. Christian-minded
individuals are more prone to
enjoy lasting marriages than
non-Christians. In addition
to people growing out of
love, drinking, drug abuse
and adultery dissolve many
marriages.
Divorce was common
in Moses’ time some 3500
years ago. Then a woman
was merely a man’s chattel
with no rights. According to
Deuteronomy 24:1-4, a man
could divorce his wife simply
by signing a ‘certificate of
divorce’ and submitting it to
her. His wife was required to
depart immediately.
Fifteen centuries later, in
His Sermon on the Mount
(Matthew 5: 31-32), Jesus
radically changed the ground
rules for divorce. The Sav
ior stated that a ‘certificate
of divorce’ was no longer
binding and that a man could
divorce his wife only for the
reason of sexual immorality.
Mark 10:1-12 clarifies that
PONDERINGS

pronouncement: “Whosoever
shall put away his wife, and
marries another, committeth
adultery against her. And if
a woman shall put away
her husband, and be
married to anoth
er, she committeth
adultery.” During the
times of Moses and
later Jesus, a woman
had no civil rights.
However, the
Women Liberation
Movement in the
late 20th century
changed that. In fact,
more women initiate
divorce proceedings
than men. Reasons for divorce
range from mental cruelty to
physical abuse to infidelity
and encompass such addic
tions as alcohol and drug
abuse. Divorce is widespread
in our society. It touches all
sectors, even pastors. In the
year 2000, Atlanta pastor and
evangelist Dr. Charles Stanley
and his wife ended a 42-year
marriage.
There is room at the foot of
the cross for all sins including
divorce. There is one excep
tion- the ‘unpardonable sin’
(Matt 12: 31-32). It is not
forgiven. The “Methodist
Book of Discipline” speaks on
divorce. Paragraph 71, section
D states: “Where marriage
partners are estranged beyond
reconciliation, we recognize
divorce as regrettable, but
recognize the right of divorced
persons to remarry.” In clos
ing, no divorce action should
proceed without talking to a
pastor and much prayer. A
word of caution: Look and
pray before you leap!

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
America Against God
The presence of ungodly mobs on the streets of many Amer
ican cities, every night, is clear proof, of the miseducation
which has been taking place in our education system.
The great sacrifices made by earlier generations of Ameri
cans have been forgotten by much of the present generation.
Forgotten too, were the great Godly principles, this great
nation was founded upon!
The past great contributions America has made to this
World is ah but forgotten. Without America’s contribu
tions in feeding many parts of this world, and in defeating
many past evil enemies in the world, this world would be in
terrible shape. We need to thank God for this nation, and
we also need, to thank America for trying to follow God’s
principles!
America needs to get back to God and to the just laws and
principles set forth by Him.
Obviously, rioting, louting, burning, disrespecting, and
killing law enforcement fellow human being, are just the
opposite of what God commands His created human world
to do.
You should have been taught that at home and in school!
Unfortunately, for America, too many ungodly people were
placed in the Supreme Court of America, and they voted God
out of schools and government places.
That was not ah their ungodly decisions. They also went
against God’s Laws and Legalized the killing of unborn ba
bies, and other abominations, such as, same-sex marriage.
Once upon a time, laws required schools to teach about God
and His Word (The Bible). Now because of Court decisions
they cannot!
Now a large part of America does not know about God, Eter
nal Life, and Eternal Damnation. Because they do not know,
they will eventually spend eternity in Hell, and the Lake of
Fire. Two places, one would not want to be in for eternity!
