THE ROARER AGAIN!!!
From the Georgian .
There is in Congress from Tennessee,
a member yclept David Crocket, who
is one of the 4 lions of the day,’ and con
tributes much to the amusement of the
fashionable world. In a word, he was
bred a Hunter; and though transferred by
the voice of his fellow citiz ens from hi*
cabin in the ‘wild wood’ to a seat in ihe
Federal Capital, yet does every action e
ven there betray his relationship to L*a
therslorking, and justify all the praises
that have been so abundantly bestowed
upon the graphic powers of bur great A
merican novelist.
YVe understand that upon his first visit
to the Menagerie, his attention was so
much struck by the appearance of the no
ble Monarch of the. Forest, as to cause
him to express a desire for a single com
bat with the animal. To ihe keepei
remonstrance, the Tennessean replied
that he could ‘kill either of the vm
Mr.nts in the room with one cut of Ins
eyed and whilst the conversation wa
pendmg, a female Panther that had bee;
sick for some time actually brea hed he
—upon which, he exclaimed with
much apparent exultation, ‘ Did nt I tell
you how ’twould be. and if it arn't so , /
hope I may bed d’ // !
At another time, Crocket was asked
bv an intimate, it he did not think that
Dandy Jack did not look like a particular
friend to whom he wa 3 verv much attach
ed? JVo! [was the reph ] but if yon will
put a pair ts spectacles on him he will
then be for all the world the exact image
of that talk ng man from Oh o,— whom,
noon turning around, he saw at hi 3 elbow
This induced him to continue, I did nt
know the gentleman was so near, but if
he or the Monkey wants sat-sfaction, I
will give't to e ther, for I put them both
on a footing.
But the Lexington Bulletin gives us
another anecdote which illustrates tho
character of this Pioneer, still better yet.
Mr. Cricket—The facetious Mr.
K. of Ohio, tells a good story, in which
this Congressman from the wild woods of
Tennessee, fiures as the hero. The
reader is to suppose Davy returned from
the first session he had the honor of rep
resenting the people in Congress. He is
to suppose further, that Davy has fallen
in with a number of his constituents at a
raising, and is giving them an account us
his visit to the President.
‘The fi r st thing I did, said Davy, after
I got to Washington was ts go to the Pre
sidents. I stepped into the President s
house, think's 1 vvho‘s afearedr If I din nt
I wish I may bed d , —Says I, Mr.
Adams, I am Mr. Crocket from Tennes
see. So, says he, how dye do Mr. Crock
et. 9 and he sho kme bv the hank, altho’
he know-d I was all hell for Jackson. If
he did nt / wish I may bed and. Not
only that, but sent me a printed ticket to
dine with him. l‘ve got it in my pocket
yrt. If I hav'nt I wish 1 may bed and.
(Here the printed tick, t was exhibited for
the admiration of the whole company.) I
went to dinner, said Davy, and I walked
round the long table, looking for some
thing that I lik- and. At last I took my seat
jist besike a fat goose. And I helped
myself to as much as I wanted. Rut I
hadn‘nt took three bites, when I looked
away up the table at a man they called
H ash (Attache.] He was talking French
to a woman on Mother side of the table.
He dodged his head and she dodged hers,
and then got to drinking wine across the
table. If they did'nt I wish I may he
and and. But when I looked back ."gain,
my plate was gone, goose and all. So 1
jist cast my eyes down to Mother end nf
the table, and sore enough I seed a white
man walking oil’ with my plate. Says I
hell lo Mister, bring back my plate; He
fetched it back in a hurry, as you may sup
pose, and when heset it down before u.e,
how do you think it was? Licked as eleau
as my hand. If it wasn't I wish 1 may
bed and Says he, what will you lace
And says I, yu u may well say that,
after stealing niv goose. And he begun lo
laugh. If he dclnt i wish I may be d—d
Then say- t, tlistor, luugn if you ptease,
but I don't half like such tricks upon trn
