FOR THE LADIES.
We have received the following brief
note, written, in ‘a pretty, crow quill
kind of a hand,’ enc losing the article
watch will be found after it. We insert
the article with a great deal of pi - cure.
A ladv born in December wishes the
inchmed inserted in the ‘Virginian.’
HOROSCOPES
We extract the follow ing list of‘Huron*
oop in each month in the v< ir, from an
old pap**r it is from the common French
Almanac, and is a very amusing produc
tion:
January —He who is born
in this month will he la orious,
and a lover of good wine, but
very subject to infidelity; he
may too often forget to pay his
debts, but be will be complai
sant, and withal a very fine
singer. The lady born in this
month will be a pretty prudent
housewife, rather melancholy,
but yet good tempered.
February. —The man born in
this mondi will love money

much, but the ladies more; he
will lie stingy at home, hut
prodigal abroad. The ladv
will be a humane and affection
ate wife, and tender mother.
March. — Hie man born in
this month will he rather hand
some; he will he honest and
prudent, be will die poor. The
lady will he a jealous, passion
ate chatterbox, something giv
en to fighting, and in her old

April fhe man who has
the misfortune to be born in
this month will be subjected to
maladies; he will travel to liia
advantage and love ladies to his
disadvantage, for he will marry
a rich handsome heiress, who
will make what, no doubt
you all understand. The ladv
of this month will he tall and
stout, with a little wit, but gret
talk, and withal, a great liar.
May. —The man horn in tins
month will he handsome and
amiable; he will uke his wife
bappv. The lady will be e
cpiallv blessed in every respect.
June —The man horn now
will he of small stature, passion
ately fond of women and chil
dren, but will not be loved in
return.—The lady will he a gid
dy personage, fond of coffee:
she will marry at the age of
twenty one, and will be a fool at
forty-five.
July- —The man will be fair,
he will suffer death for the
wicked woman he loves. The
female of this month will be
passably handsome, with a
sharp nose, but fine bust.
She will be of rather sulky tem
per.
August.—T he man will be
ambitious and courageous, but
too apt to cheat. He will have
several maladies, and two
w ves. The lady will be ami*
able and twice married, but her
second husband will cause her
to regret her first.
Septembei'. —He who is born
in this month will be strong,
wise and prudent, but too easy
with his wife who will give him
great uneasiness. The lady
round faced and fair haired,
witty, discreet, amiable, and
loved by her triends.
October. — I lie man of this
month will have a handsome
face and florid complexion; he
will be wicked in his youth and
always inconstant. He will
promise one tlfiiig and do an
other, and remain poor. The
lady will be pretty; a little too
fond of talking She will have
two husbands, who will die of
grief; she will best know why.
November .- —7’he man bom
now will have a fine face, and
he a gay deceiver. 7'lie laity
of this month will be large, li
beral and full of novelty.
December. — 71 ie man born
in this month will 1)0 a good
sort of person, though passion
ate. He will devote himself to
the army, and be betraved by
his wife. The lady will be a
<iliable and handsome, with a
good voice, and a well propor
tioned body; she will be twice
married, remain poor, hut con
tinue honest. After tjiis satisfac
tory adjustment of fates accord
ing to the months, follow many
other explications of destiny di
rected by different rules and
founded on other principles.
We have predictions accord
ing to the four seasons, intro
duced by the wooden represen
tation of a studious old gentle
man in a cap and beard, look
ing thro’ a telescope which ac
tually touches one of the seven
stars, compels the lightning to
become one of tlie zigzag
species, and is very near eclips
ing the sun.

drew Jackson, President Elect of the U
nited Slates. Engraved in a superior
sty le on copper, and intended to present
a faithful and beautiful likeness of the il
lustrious individual to the American Peo
ple.
2d. A splended title page, containing
the United States Coat of Arms.
3d. Ihe Life of Andrew Jackson, as
written by Robert Walsh, Jr. Esq. pre
senting a true character of the soldier and
patriot, who has b?en recommended to
the people of the Uoited States by his
stern integrity, long experience, and
transcendant services to his country.
4th. A copperplate engraving of the
Battle ot N. Orleans: a noble charger
bearing Gen. Jackson in the foreground,
with the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ floating
over the field ot battle.
6th. A copperplate engraving of the
Farmer of Tennessee. Scene, a rich cul
tivated farm, with a distant view of Gen
eral Jackson’s residence, the Hermitage-
These engravings will be copied, with
some alterations, from the paintings dis
played in Philadelphia and New-Vork,
covering a space of 60 feet by 15, and
splendidly illuminated on the nights of
the election, in front es the Jackson head
quarters.
6th. Some further particulars of the life
of the Hero compiled from the collecti
of facts made by the Jackson republican
committee of Pennsylvania and otlie;
sources.
7th. A view of the United States Capi
tol at Washington, elegantly engraved on
copper.
Bth. Anew piece of Music, entitled
Jackson’s Grand March arid Quick Step,’
composed expressly lor this occasion, by
one of the first professors of music in the
United States.
9ih. Cover embellishments. In addi
tion to which the work will be studied
with minor though appropriate embellish
ments.

correct general Map of the United Males,

On the score of politics, he has but lit
tle to advance. Averse to new doctrines
and ambitious innovations, his creed i
the Constitution of the United States,
arid Ins exposition of that instrument,
the one that obtained under the Ad
ministration of Washington, Jefferson
Madison, and Monroe. For other polit
ical dicta, he coufesses freely that he has
no veneialien. Hence, he announces
himself as belonging neither to the sect
of Ad oi Omar; but determined in every
event to support men so long only as they
are able and willing to contribute
to the national piospenty. To these who
wish to cherish a paper based on other
principles, he in frankness must observe,
that he desires not their patronage.
TERMS.
THE PHCENIX will appear in the
month of January next, on a royal sheet,
and be weekly published on a day to suit
the mails.
The subscription will be Dollars
per annum in advance, or Four at end
of the year.
Advertisements will be inserted at the
usual rates.
