The Morning News, one of the

the position and sentiment of the
Southern people in the following
parnifraph:
‘ The South is quiet. She doesn't:

Newspapers that, habitually ap

not seem to realize that their intelli

Herald.
The Herald Is right. The para
graph was taken from the Abbeville
Chronicle. The Herald however
fjcglccled to give ill the quotation
marks it deserved. An oversight
doubtless.
The cotton crop of last year is
now estimated to have reached
sloven million halos. A large por
tion of litis enormous crop is still on
band. With these facts staring
them in the face, with war imminent
between this country and Spain, the
farmers will agiin plant a large
acreage in cotton. When the crop
in harvested the farmer will discover
if war comes, that there will be 110
demand for - oottowat any price. If
wav is averted another large crop of
ration will reduce the price to four
cents and perhaps three cents per
{pound. The wisest course is to ro
duae the cotton acreage to the mini
mum and plant largely of grain and
food crops.

Abbeville's health word is
one that has excited incredulity,
whenever published abroad With a

with u gentle undulation in every
direction her natural ilnvinagc is per

ters tire celebrated for the mineral
and curative properties, aiid the ar

factor in the growth of the town.
There’s no better location to lx* found
for such industries as cotton mills,
variety works and barrel factories
than here where tin* raw material
abounds in exhivustless quantities.
Tlie Graded and Public schools of
Abbeville are the pride of her citi

firms the hope that she is to become
a leading educational centre. The
diurcli buildings of the town tire
handsome and attractive, and their
pulpits are filled With zealous and

The Normal institute of Jasper Fla.,
will come to Abbeville to locate
permanently, in time for the fall

does seem that a bright future
