“Sandy Jim's” Adventure.
A citizen of Invin county. Mr.
.1nines Fletcher, better known ns
•■Sandy Jim," to distinguish liim
front a cousin of the same name, itas
ii collection that, in these late days
of the nineteenth century is a unique
one. It is about three h mill red sets
of deer antlers in rows nsder tin- pi
azza slieil of Jits residende: one tier
above another- The best of it is
Mr. Fletcher rcmenibers the history
of each pair of antlers, and can tell
just where the deer was killed and
all the attending circumstances.
And the histories are well worth
hearing, being rich enough in adven
ture to (ill a volume of ordinary size.
But one of his most memorable ad
ventures is not connected with the
deer antlers. .Mr. Fletcher built a
turkey pen down near the edge of the
river swamp, and going to it one day
was overjoyed to find eight fine, fat.
wild turkeys entrapped therein. In
his haste to secure them lie decided
to crawl through into the pen and
catch and kill them. But when lie
got inside he would have given half
his worth to he out again. Did you
ever try to hnnnle a live, wild tur
key? He is a warm member. And
all eight of these were warm mem
bers, and as Mr. Fletcher worked
they rapidly became warmer. At
last, after making the most desper
ate fight of his life, lie came out vic
torious and the turkeys were all
slain, but when Mr. Fletcher slowly
and painfully crawled out of that
slaughter pen he was not as hand
some as he once was, but he knew
more, and the sears of the conflict
lie bears until today.—Constitution
