The Waycross Journal has this to
say about the pastor of the Baptist
church there: < t Rev. W II Scruggs,
is one of the grandest men in all
South Georgia and one of the most
popular pastors Waycross has ever
had. He is pure gold. An ideal
preacher, a pastor loyal and true and
loving, s. man whom every one, irre
spective of denomination, delights to
honor, lie is doing a work for God
and lus community which cannot be
estimated in dollars and cents. The
equipoise of the man, the kindliness
of his disposition, the tenderness of
his great heart, make him a general
favorite. Eleven years in the ser
vice of his church in Waycross at
test the fact. If there is a man in
all the world who has not, or de
serves not to have an enemy, that
nan is that golden-hearted pastor of
the Baptist church, Rev. W H
Scruggs." Rev. Scruggs is the pas
tor of our boyhood and we bow rev
erently to the above statement, for
there was never one more true. He
is an uncle of the beloved pastor of
the Abbeville Baptist church, Rev.
M L Lawson, about whom the r. ne
statement can be made.

Corporation vs. Co-operation.
A petition from Homebody comes
out in the paper to shorten the line
around Abbeville and leave a lot
us out in the country among the
“crackers! Well, crackers are
bad after all to have
especially if they are “Snowflakes"
that get crisp, good and quick round
the tire. But this new line mk;'ht
help the town because the bridges
and branches and roads over them
would have to be kept by somebody
outside. Co you reckon the mana
gers get enough tax from the sur
purbans to keep up all their long
streets etc. any way? You know I
these ought to bo times of autration Presi- J
and not scateration, from the
dent down. The nation that grabs
too much mqy count on being for
ever in hot water, if it doesn't lose
what it lias.
But I started out to say that the
most needed lesson of the two, is to
spell “Corporation" into “co-opera
tion." Now spose we quit spending
dime and money and feeling over the
“court house question ." corporation
etc. and make a long pull and a
strong pull for co-op-eration, from
the mayor and council clear through
the catalog—merchants, farmers,
doctors, lawyers, employers, em
ployees, schools, churches, ete. Y A
great big cable of a sticking piaster
ought to lie put round the last one
of these fellows that tucks his head
down like a box-tarepin and thinks
of npbody’s self but his own, what
ever he goes at. But enough, j ve
got a plan of co-operation that will
work, but I won’t tell it yet.
A Fable.
A donkey stepped into a store one
day and asked for the proprietor,
who walked out of his private office
to meet him, but was surprised to
see a donkey in his store.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
t. You know this is no. place for a
donkey.”
“I am here," said the donkey,
“because I saw your advertisement
on the fence that surrounds iny
pasture. I knew that you, too,
must be a donkey, or you would
have placed the advertisement in a
live newspaper, where it would be
read by the people, not donkeys.
Being lonesome today, I thought I
would be neighborly and call on
you. ”—Danville Breeze.
Do you have rheumatic pains, loss
of appetite, hot dry skin, indiges
tion, loss of energy, puffiness under
the eyes, swelling of the feet and ir
regular action of the bowels? These
troubles come from faulty action of

Lean’s Liver and Kidney Balm will
cure them. Far sale by the Central

A Klondike at Home.
There is endless talk about the
Klondike—the mines of the precious
metal and many thousands have en
dangered their lives in pursuit of
riches there, but the important truth
is dawning that diligence is the
“Golden Gate” to a far richer field
than the one mentioned. For ex
ample: here in our county (Wilcox)
we enjoy a solubrious climate, in
which almost any plants, fruits, ete.
