About four years ago one side of
my abdomen began to enlarge from
a growth inside, It grew to such
proportions that it seemed to fill the
abdomen. Then dropsy began and
swelled both legs and stomach to
twice their normal size. The doctors
called the trouble enlargement of
the spleen, and told me 1 must die.
I was removed from.the hospital and

The College Entertainment.
The entertainment given by the
Scientific class at * the college last
Saturday evening was a grand sue
cess. The exercises were opened
with prayer by Rev. S FI Bliteh.
then came music by the chorus class
of nearly a hundred voices. The
first speech was that of Prof. Laug

tioa b v Miss Essie Bliteh was next

on the program. Miss Essie's sub
ject was a good one, and she acquit
ted herself in an excellent manner.
Then came a number of speeches
from different members of the class,
all did well. Music uy the chorus
class interspersed the other exer
cises, and made it all very instruc
tive and enjoyable. The speech of
Mr. A J McDonald from Jackson
county deserves special mention.
This was his first attempt to speak
in public, but success surely
crowned his efforts. Hundreds with
the practice of years could not ex
cell Mr. McDonald's first attempt
at speech making.
Last hut not least was a recitation
by Miss Johnnie Smith of Jasper,
Fla., Miss Jonnnie recites beau
tifully. Her subject was a good one
and was well prepared. When she
concluded there was great applause
which she acknowledged with a gen
tle bow and modestly retired.
Prof. McMillan, principal of the
Ocilla High School, was called upon
for a few remarks. Mr. McMillan
is an old pupil of Prof's. Little and
Kulil and in his remarks was loud in
his praises of them n.3 instructors
and congratulated Abbeville in hav
ing the finest instructors and best
school in the State.
Fully four hundred, people were
present, among them several old pu
pils from Ocilla and other places.

Church Services Today.
The oulj- church services iu the
city today was held at the Methodist
church from 10 till 11:30 o’clock.
It was a union service and was led
by Rev. G Fisher, pastor. Some
beautiful music was rendered by the
choir. A paper was read by Miss
Sallie Story giving the origin of
Thanksgiving day.

Dislocated His Shoulder.
Rev. C A Jackson, pastor of the
Methodist church of Rochelle, met
with a rather singular and painful
accident while on his way to a coun
try church last Saturday. He dis
covered a covey of partridges on the
road side and got out of his buggy
and hurled a chunk at them with
such force as to dislocate his shoul
der. He suffered a great deal from
the mishap, and came here for med

visited the college Friday.

school, till after Xmas, to look after
business at Forest Glen,
Mr. Max Kilburn has attained the
championship of best jumper in
school. He jumped 15 feet t! in. on
a run.
The school “Final” was a grand
success, all acted their parts well.
Prof. McMillan, principal of the
Ocilla High School, was present at
the Final and gave a pleasant and
interesting address.
Mr. Rogers, of Tatnall county,
entered school Monday.
Mr. AY C Langford of Clinch
county led in the opening exercises
Saturday evening.
Mr. Smith of Early county entered
school Monday.
Miss Irene McLeod was taken sick
Saturday noon aud had to leave
school. AA’e hope to sec hqr back
again Tuesday.
The second grammar class had a
spelling bee Saturday, which was en
joyed by all. Misses Shepherd and
McLeod chose sides.
Mr. Owens and Mr. II G Monroe,
of Lake City, Fla., entered «ckool
Monday.
Mr. M J AA’aters left school to
teach Saturday. Al’e were sorry to
see him go.
