PRIVATE MUSIC CLASSES.
Has Abbeville any institutions of
llllN kllu1 ' " llJ ’ we are so in-
1 formed. Is it right to have them
when the town 1ms striven so hard to
build up an institution that would
meet the educational wants of every
body? No. It is not right. It is
.
not fair. It is not just. There is a
music department at the College and
the terms are just aS reasonable as
tirst class musical instruction can be
obtained anywhere. Patriotism and
loyalty demands that this depart
ment be patronized by the people of
the town when instruction in that
branch is desired. Side schools and
classes of every kind should lie dis
couraged and center everything on
the College. Do you realize who
you injure, what you injure and
where you injure when you fail to do
tiiis? A citizen of Abbeville cannot
afford to solicit a private class for
instruction in anything when that
instruction can lx? obtained at the
College. A citizen of Abbeville can
not afford to patronize a private in
structor in anything when It can be
had at the College. It takes patron
age to maintain a first class music
department. We have this depart
ment and expect to keep it but you
must do your part. Your intentions
may not be to injure the school nor
anybody, but you are injuring the
entire town when >ou encourage side
classes. If you are guilty of such
gross indiscretions, quit it. Don't
be guilty any more.

Taylor, of Hawkinsville, were visit
ing the family of W H Dickey last
week.
Saturday the 24, was a busy day
in Abbeville. People were here from
far and near and were as busy as
bees moving from one place to
another. It is true that there is not
a great deal of money in circulation,
but there was more here on the 24
than one might suppose, and it was
used as a means of getting Xmas
goods galore. The merchants were
very busy all day long, and many of
them had to have extra help. The
pyrotechnical displays of Friday and
Saturday nights were extensive and
varied, and some of the cannon
crackers that were made to explode
almost shook the earth and lie ver
failed to attract attention, If ap
pearances count for anything, the
young people of the town have had
a Jot of pleasure since the holidays
begun.
