A lie nailed.
Tt is being circulated in some
tions of the county that Robinson s
( irons would not give a performance
at Abbeville on the 17th inst., •” iS
advertised. The excuse offered
this erroneous statement is, that the
county commissioners have placed a
license tax of $500.00 on the circus,
which is more than the managers are
willing, or could afford the*county to pay.
Every citizen of is well
aware of the state of affairs, politi
cally. in Wilcox, and when the peo
pie of Abbeville beard this
dinary statement they were not sur
prised—it is not the first one of
character that has been circulated
with a view to injuring the reputa
tion of our city.
The originators of this falsehood
are well known to our people It
was told in order to keep people
from coming to Abbeville,
perhaps, that oul" merchants would
get a little more than their share of
trade from the large crowds of
pie who will be here to see the show.
For the benefit of our readers and
in Live interest of the circus manage-,
ment. we stale unhesitatingly that
the eomimssionei s have not placed
lin >' such tax on the circus, and there
is no foundation whatever for the
statement to that effect. It is a lie
circulated by an enemy to Abbeville.
and we take pleasure in assuring the
people that the circus will be here
Mohday morning witfioiit fail, and
will give one of the best perform
anees ever seen in Abbeville or Mil
Cox county.
