VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
BILL PASSES SENATE
Washington, July 31.—The senate
today passed Senator Hoke Smith's vo
cational education bill providing for
federal “co-operation with the states
in promoting agricultural and indus
trial education.
The Postmaster General, the Secre
taries of Inferior, Agriculture, <'cm
merce and Labor and the Commis
sioner of Kducation would form a fed
eral board under the measure to su
pervise the work and to <distribute
funds. Tho bill would appropriate
$500,000 for 1917, $750,000 for 1918 and
annually increase the amount by $260,-
000 until 1925, after which the annual
appropriaticn would be $3,000,000. The
money would be allotted to the states
on the bhasis of rural population. The
measure has not yet passed the housc,
