MUNICIPAL PRIMARY PROMISES
TO BE A LLIVELY ONE FROM THE
START—KING, LAMB, AND NO
BLE ANNOUNCE.
Just who will and who will not be
in the running and the turn-about
that municipal politice will take this
year remains to be seen, but with can
didates announcing and other pros
pective candidates both for mayor and
aldermen under discussion, local pol
itics are at least growng very inter
esting. It is now expected that the
wind-up will find numbers: of candi
dates for méyor and the three places
on the aldermanic board.
It is a generally known fact that
Mayor Gordon Jones will be a candi
date to succeed himself. His an
“houncement will probably appear ih'
Wednesday’s issue of the Dispatch.
Judge Max E. Land is pretty gen
erally discussed as a prospective can
didate for mayor. In an interview
‘Saturday morning Judge Land said:
“] am personally not desirous of
holding any office, as office holding of
any kind has no attraction to me and
the charm that it once had has dis
appeared. By this, however, Ido not
mean to say to my friends and fellow
citizens that I would refuse to hold
an office in the city of my home if I
should become impressed that a de
mand was so strong that I would not |
be a good citizen in my community,i
and willing to perform any public du
ty which the occasion might demand.
1 feel that every man who cares for his
home town should at all times be wil
ling to do his best to co-operate with
his fellow citizens for the best. interest
always, even if it shouid mean sacrifice
and a lack of personal desire on his!
part, if duty appeared to demand. i
“] will always construe the situa
tion to be that I am not needed unless
there is such a popular.demand for
fiwx‘vice, and the movement so strong
on the part of the citizenry that no
one who listens .could fail to hear. It
is entirely a matter for the citizens to
say who they want to serve them, and
I, Yill never feel hurt if pubtic office
rever comes my way.”
C. L. McMillan is being strongly
pressed by his friends to enter the
mayoralty race, and he has assurance
of warm support in event he pitches
his hat into the ring. When asked if
he had the matter of entering the race
under serious consideration, Mr. Me-
Millan stated that he did not care to
commit himself on the subject. “I
haye no idea, just at this time, whether
or not I will be a candidate,” he said.
Of aldermanic candidates there
promises to be many. The announce
meut of C. O. Noble appears in this is
sue of the Dispatch. He is a former
member of the council and is thor
oughly familiar with the duties of the
office.
The announcement of J. Nelse King
for re-election also appears in this is
sue. He has served as chairman of
the finance committee and other im
«qutant committees and his record
speaks for itself.
J. V. Dunlap is being strongly urged
to enter the aldermanic race, and as
vet he is undecided. He will let his
‘fx'riends know the early part of the
week whether or not he will be in
the running.
J. Homer Lamb, who served on the
council in 1915, has thrown his hat
into the ring and is a full-fledged can
didate. Mr. Lamb's experience has
thoroughly familiarized him with the
dutes of the office. !
C. L. Lifsey, whose term expires
this year with that of J. N.-King and
C. L. McMillan, stated Saturday that
he had fully made up his mind that he
would not be a candidate to succeed
himself.
L. L. Davis is-a prospect for an al
dermanic candidate. In an interview
Saturday he said that he had not ar
rived at any conclusion as to entering
the race.

The annual meeting of the Wo

Two%excellent addresses were deliv

work in the association were touched
on.
The meeting was one of the most
enthusiastic held in recent years, and
the report that this organization had
contributed $1.500 for missions and
othier causes during the past fiscal
year was most gratifying. Dinner was
served in the dining room at the
church and the visitors were extended
many other courtesies while in the

FARM DEMONSTRATCR JOHNSON
REQUIRED IN SEVERAL PLACES.
L'OSSES LIGHTER WHEN QUICK
WORK IS DONE.
While there is not a great deal of
cholera in the county, the loss in one
place last week was 33 fine pigs. All
this loss occurred before the distress
signal was‘given and it cost t.he meat
producer heavily. Farm Demonstrator
Johnson lighted into this place and
quickly inoculated all the sound hogs.
All hands are now waiting to deter
mine whether the ptague has been
chacked.
More than 200 head of hogs were in
oculated in Crisp last month and last
week Mr. Johnson used the serum on
55 additional where the cholera had
shown up.
The effort is heing made evrywhere
to get the farmers to understand how
to detect cholera. Fdrm Demonstra
tion Agent Johnson gives special at
tention to this and where there is a
man in doubt he ought to get in com
munication with the agent withdm de
lay. It will save losses :and prove
highly beneficial in the fight against
cholera. !

it was stated here, on what authoity
was not learned, tliat in the event
Governor Harris failed to get the nom

pardon W. A. (Pete) Coleman before
