AN NA BELLE Goes Wild Grape Hunting |
Dear Friends:—Everyone seemed to like Grandma’s Bedtime Story last [
week and dear Grandma is very much pleased as she likes to write stories i
i that entertain us little folks. Her story for this week is:
=, s el BIRDIE BLUE. -
R iy My grandchildren, Anna Belle and Jack, are very fond of wild grapes N
o and I expect you are too. I might say that I ltke them myself. Weli, the
~§. other day they took Anna Belle's chum, Marjorie for a wild grape hunt
and when they came home not a grape did they bring with them. Then
Apna Belle told me a very strange story and I'll now tell it to you as best
T can. !
: ? Away out in the woods stands a big tree with vines covering all its |
(, Aj.\ branches. It-is full of wild grapes and on reaching it Jack quickly
climbed to one of the low limbs, (he never climbs high as he knows it's
ag fig dangerous) and began to gather the grapes, but suddenly stopped when he
/é ! heard a chirpy voice call out, “You don’t want all the grapes, do you, little ‘
s 9 boy ?” : |
fitie Jack was almost too frightened to look up, but when he did what do you
A\~ ; think he saw? Why the prettiest little bluebird you ever saw and he could
= A\ % talk. “Don't you think we want something to eat? " continued the bluebird, '
. as he fluttered his wings and dropped down on the limb beside Jack. X
\ : ok ks . “Your daddy puts sacks on all the grapes in his vineyard so I cannot get
| :\\ . - } them, but you come out to my vineyard and think ‘you can take all you
\IV }h,:x‘; want without asking anyone. Do you think that is right, little boy?” he
d .._@:_ - concluded.
4 ISy © I really don't know, and Jack cannot tell, just whethier fright or pity
8 : for the bluebird made him scramble down from the tree, but anyway he did
AR | this very thing and they came straight home as fast &8s they could, and -they
didn’t bring any grapes either! ¥ »
- Of course, it's unusual for a bluebird to talk and I tell Jack and Anna
Belle that maybe it was a parrot; but Jack always says, “No grandma, it _
was a very small bird, about so big and as blue as could be,” 8o of course
: -1 1 can't deny him. ; :
- .\,\‘ ! Anyway, there's a good moral for all of us in this little story of grand=
| _ ma’s and I'm sure you will enjoy next week’s just as well. Lovingly, -
