Chevrolet Four-Ninety!
The Lowest Price Electrically Equipped Car
The Chevrolet Control
Imagine a gear shift so sensitive and
smooth.that it can be shifted silently, with
the finger tips alone—even the unusual
shift from third to second—=at 40 miles an
heur. I magine a steering gear that responds
to the slightest pressure of your hand-—so
important in heavy traffic—so difficult with
the ordinary car. The Chevrolét is the
ideal woman’s car.
The Chevrolet Clutch
To the driver of any other car the light
ness and flexibility of the Chevrolet clutch
is astonishing. It is so light that it can be
thrown by a finger pressure—so strong that
it exerts a ton pressure. It means to the
driver absolutely elimination of clutch
throwing fatigue.
Emergency Brake
It stops the car instantly—no matter
what the emergency—no matter what the
speed—with a-pull of one finger and with
out a joit. You won’t jump a gutter or hit
a tree with your finger on the Chevrolet
brake. No cther car carries this insurance
of absolute safety.

UNITED STATES WAITING |
CN GERMANY
Washington, Nov. 3.—State depart
went officials today awaited the Ger
man version eof the sinking of the
British steamer Marina. They also
expected affidavits and other data
gathered from American survivers.
Great importance was attached to an
Athens dispatch rcceived last night
saying the Greek government had
becn notified that Germany intended
to sink, without warning, all ships
carrying supplies to the allies. As
far as is known the United States re
ceived no such notification. The Uni
ted States would regard such proceq
ure as directly conirary to German
pledges.

The Chevrolet Springs
Because of their unustval ba’ance and
adjustment, the rider in the Chevrolet does
not have to slow down for cobbles, tracks,
rocky roads or ruts. 170 maiter how rough
{he road the rider will not leave the seat.
The spring movement is sindulating—a gen
tie rise and fall—withcw” pound or shock.
The Chevrolet is qmick, agile, respen
sive. It gives you the .ealization of per
fect contrel. It is beaut’ful in its long, low
lines, and in its comfort. The deep, wide
driver’s seat is so cleverly planned that the
100-pound woraan drives as comfortably as
the 200-pound man. The Chevrolet per
forms steacdily and smootit'y. It is a traly
quiet car. .
Get These Facts
Dces your car steer hard? Steer the
Chevrolet. Does your clutch throw hard?
Try the Chevrolet clutch. Does your car
ride hard in the back seat? Try the Che
vroiet over the cobbles and the ruts. I
you can’t stop your car instantly, with a
finger pressure, at full speed. try the Che
vrolet emergency.
We leave it to you—for you know the
faults in your car as well ag we do. That
is the recason for the Chevrol¢i—an ease
ment—a freedom frem ycur troubles and
complaints. 1f you want driviig ease and
riding comfort as never beforv accompiish
cd—you want the Chevrolet.
RIGHT TO SELK. SHIPS DENIED.
Manila, P: 1, November 3.—The
right of Philippine ship-owners to sell’
their vessels without government
sanction is expressly denied in a de
cision made by tte board of pubiic
utility coramission 3s. The board re
fused the petition of Ynchausti & Co.,
a local shipping firm, for permission
to sell the inter-islaind steamer Gover
ner Forbes.
The board says that it can see no
reason .in law or economic morals.
why the firm shovidd be permitted to
make the 100 per cent profit which!
the sale would mean to them, instead
of the annual 30 n2r cent profit which
the vessel is yielding, at the cost of
the welfare of thw= people of the Phii
ippines.® The Governor Forbes - has
been plying bet'ween Manila and loi
lo, the suger metropolis, for some
years though this service has been
suspended for <he past few months
‘while the vesscl was on - charter to
trans-Atlantic carriers.
The board do3s not attempt to pass
upon the legal aspects of its decision
but confines its2if to a statement that
the organic act which esablishéd the
hoard of nublic utility commissioners,
gives it power to refuse permission |
for the sale of public utility company

FOR ALDERMAN. !
I hereby annsunce myself a candi
date for Alderman of the City of (‘.or{'

ful performance of the duties of thi
office. /
I believe there should be a just ani
Oiiuitab}'e adjustment of the city’s bug
ness license. Under the present sys
tem the small merchant and shop mel
are made {0 pay an unreasonable pro
porticn of the running expensecs o
the city. Every merchant in the cit}
sheuld be made to pay somewhat i
keeping with his volume of business
1 believe that the minimum wate
rent sbould he reduced to an amoun
only suflicient for the running expens:
and upkeep of the plant. |
The police department being one ¢
the most imporiant cf the city’s gov
srnment I believe it should be kep !
nup to the highest standard of efficien |
ey and that there should be thre: |
shifis of patrolmcn worki,, 8 hour:
each. I believe for the *protection nl
the city the cffice of desk sergearn
should be re-established. - |
I believo the fire department shoul
be maintained at its present hig!
standard of efficiency.
1 believe at the very earliest pos
gible date the city should establis’
and operate a sanatorium in keeping
with the development and needs of
the city and surrounding territory.
I believe in the observance of the
Christian Sabbath,
If you believe in these principles
vote for me and I Wwill appreciate your
support and do my best to make the
city a faithful and eflicient officer.
‘ Respecifully,
J. D. MATHEWS.
To the Pecple of Cordele:
After thougntiul consideration 1
have concluded to announce my can
didacy for Mayor, subjsct to the ap
proach’ng primary to be held on the
21st inkt.
I desire to say in this regard that
1 have not and shall not make any
rremises as to the city government
oxcept those stated in this card. If
you sece fit to elect me I shall be in
position to conserve the best interest
of Cordele as a whole, and to give ear
and do the right on all questicns, as
I am able to judge, being guided by
the judgment and feelings of the peo
ple at all times conccrning the wel
fare of the city and the individuals

Your clogged nostrils will open. The air
passages of your head will clear and
you can breathe freely. No more dull
ness, headache; no hawking, snuffling,
mucous discharges or dryness; no strug
gling for breath at night. :
Tell your druggist you want 2 small
bottle of Eiy’s Cream Balm. Apply a
little of this fragrant, antiseptic creamr
