IN ROBBERY CASE
MAN ARRESTED IN CORDELE
MAKES FIGHT FCR HI!S FREE
~DOM=CASE~IS POSTPONED UN
TIL JANUARY TERM.
Sheriff John Ward and Assistant
Chief of Police T. N. Turk were sum
moned to Atlanta Wednesday to serve
as witnesses Thursday in the trial
of Dan Carr, alleged highwayman.
charged with holding up an Atlanta
street car, and who was arrested in
Cordele two weeks ago.
The alleged bandit defended him
self when brought to trial in Judge
Ben Hill’s criminal division of the
Fulton county superior courk with
H. L. Patterson presiding in Judge
Hill’s place.
| Carr explained that his case wasn’t
"‘feady\ and asked for a postponement
on the grounds that he had not had
an opportunity to summon’ several
witnesses from Macon to testify that
. he was in Macon at the time of the
\hold-up, and to employ an attorney
to defend him.
The judge granted a postponement
of the trial until the January term.
at which time the Cordele witnesses
will again be summoned to testify.
‘ Carr, it is said, recently threw a
bottle through the bars of his cell at
the county jail at a lawyer and wit
ness for the state who had come to
interview him.
