JUST ONE HOUSE |IN MOOSE
LAKE MINN., THAT DIDN'T BURN
There was just one oasis of safety
in the Moose Lake and Cloguet, Minn,
“district when those towng were com

ate vicinity were burned to the ground
This home, which v sisted the sparks

air was filled, was roofed with Cer

OW!S the preservation of his home to
theAsphalt Shingles, because of the
fact that practically 75 in-r cent of
!h(i Moose Lake houses were burned
u(t‘br the fire had started on the roof.
HO' {s naturally rather proud of his
choice of a roof and is recommending
the same materials to his neighbors,
Ingtances multiply evervwhere daily
which show that old-fashioned wood
ghingles are not only non-resistant in
cases of general conflagration, hut are
a positive source of danger, as in ad
dition to taking fire quickly. they ra
pidly spread burning brands throngh
out a whole neighborhood.
For this reason prepared roofing
and shingles are everywhere being
adopted in place of other types of
roof. Prepared roofing have long
known to offer effective resistance to
mb, smothering fires which occur un
der them and climinating the danger
from flaming brands. They are also
the most economincal and convenient
material for roofing, being easy to
lay, low in cost, compact in bulk and
very durable, |
The Government recognized these
facts by chossing vast quantities of
rpr«pnrod roofing for its great war
construction program. All the bhig
aantonments were roofed with it Ac
cording to some authorities, had it
not been for the availability of this
type of roof and its economy and con
venlence the Government would have
heen seriously handicapped in the
wondertul building record made,
The red or green surfaced shingles
have also been found to blend perfect
ly with every type of building mater
ial and are very desirable from the
artistic point of view. In any form per
pared roofing is the accepted modern
material for roofing purposes.
