This brought an old veteran, Mr

Purleq so weary, long ago—
Lift it higher! Hold it so!
Stars and Bars forever! Oh,

Let the Stars and Stripes wave o'er it,
To no other fag we'll lower it, :
Nor the foes of that we'll gpare!
Lifted where the martial breeze,

Thrills the souls of sons of you-—
Proud to be your sons and—true,—

Die, of them the memory—
Who defied the jaws of hell,
Facing front for it and—fell;
Who, untutored for retreat,
Were unconguered in defeat;
