MRS. ESPY HOSTESS.
Two delightful aftfa'rs of the week
were the porch psrties given by Mrs.
Joe. .Espy. On Wednesday morning
Mrs. Espy was hostess to the mem
bers of the Matrons Rook Club. Six
tables were arranged for the 'game
on the porch which was most attrac
tive in the .decorations of ferns and
Shaasta daisies. In the recepticen hall
sun fowers and marigolds were used.
Mrs. Price Heard and Mrs. Lee Ryals
served punch. At the conclusion of
the game a delicous salad course was
served by the hostess, assisted by
Mesdames Arthut Wheeler and J. J.
Williams.
On Thursday morning Mrs Espy agan
entertained, inviting a numher of
friends. £

game played. Mrs. Price Heard andi
Mps. Arthur Wheeler presided at the
punch bowl. A salad course was ser
ved. Mesdames J. J. Williams and

Mrs. E. T. Tison entertaned a num
ber of the younger set on Thursday
evening with a prom party complimen
itary to her niece, Miss Elizabeth Clay
’ol’ Montogomery, Ala. who is her
house guest. The rooms used were
iprettily decorated, in Shasta daisies,
lmarigolds and other garden flowers
‘carrying out the color motif of yellow
and white which was also used in the
refreshments consisting of an ice
course. Punch was served in the din
ng room by Misses Edna Bartholomew
and Mary Jane Montfort . Mrs. Tison
was assisted in entertaining by Mrs.

myrtle in artistic arrangement, and

TRAINED DOG FAII S RiIM;
CAUGHT BOUND FOR CAVE
Columbus, July 3.—Frank Johnson,
a blind negro, 65 years old, was ar
rested neth here today charged with
illicitly making whiskey. Federal de
puties said the nergo had trained a
dog to lead him to a cave near by
when any one was heard approaching
the distillery and that he was en
route to the cave today when caught.
They said the negro admitted mak
ng whiskey for the past five years
and that he had accumulated $1,500
in silver, as he would accept nothing
else from purchasers. A seventy-five
gallon still was confiscated. |
