RECEIPE FOR HOME BRANDY
BY ATLANTA HOUSEWIF
Atlanta, Ga., July 7.—There have
Leen many recipes in circulation for
making home-made brandies, liquors,
wines, ete, but here is one which has
been thoroughly tried and tested by
an Atlanta lady who vouches for the
‘.atulemunt that it's the real thing.
| The recipe follows:
Ifour quarts of grape jucice. Two
'pmuuls of brown sugar, One pound of
raisins, One yeast cake.
Mix all together, set away in a warm
place (perferably in an earthenware
jar,) and allow it to stand for twenty
one days and strain through a cloth
to remove the raisins and seeds and
the sediment.
At this precise stage of fermanta
con the brandy thus produced is the
; finest kind of a drink. Atlantians who
have tried it declare the brandy con
l tains a regular kick that is very satis
tactory as a sustitute for an old-time
[ seoteh highball,
Lol vou prefer to make a still stronger
‘ It you perfer to make a still stranger
! drink you may distill the ferment thus
{ produced and here have a tolerably
|i:i3-,h proof cognac brandy. That is to
say, vou can distill it if Rave a dis
i tillery.

Definite Shaping of European Com
mercial Situation and More Fa
vo’r'able Weather Reports
N Looked For. !
New Orleans, July 6.—While the net
changes in the cotton market last
week weer small, amounting to losses
of six to forty-three points in the con
tract department, while spots showed
no net change, the trade seems to look
for larger trading and more import
ant resultg this week. A more defi
nite shaping up of the Buropean com
mercial situation is looked for, which
ig expected ‘to lead to larger exrorts,
althourh shipments last weal were
large enongn to send the figures for
the season over the five million mark.
Up to the close of business last
week the grand total of clearances
was 5,078,541 bales. against 4,028,545
{o the same time last year.
According to general opinion weath
or news is bound to assume increased
importance because July and August
we conceded to be the critical stag»
of the growing season. In the near fu
ture bright, warm weather would be
regarded a highly favorable because
it would give farmers a chance to com
ple cultivation of their crops and
would also tend to check the ravages
of the boll weevil, already reported
ns gerious in some sections of the
belt.
Further rains would be accepted as
about the most unfavorable develop
ment possible for the crop. As the
market closed last week it promised
{0 be more of a weather affair this
week following the discounting of po
litical news over the holidays.

‘H4alf Million Voted Attacked on the
| Ground That Taxable Values Do
| Not Warrtn That Amount.
! Valdosta, July 6.—Berrian ccunty’s
zocd roads bonds recently authorized
by the voters o the county, were
validated before Judge W. K. Thoinas,
at Nashville, on Saturday, after a
streng fight had been made against
the issue.
Although less than fifty votes
against bonds were poiled in the elec
tich, a faw of the opponents decidel
to attack the validity of the issue in
the courts, and employed the law
firm of Quincy & Rice, of Ocilla, to
head the fight. Solicitor C. E. Hay,
also appeared in his official capacity.
Judge W. D. Buie and other Nashville
attorneys represented the other side.
Amcnrg the grounds on which the
ficht was made it was alleged that the
taxithle values of the county did not
rwarrant and issue of $500,000 in bonds.
This ground was sustained by Judge
Thomas, and after argnments lasting
throughout the day, bonds were vali
dated in the sum of $350,000 instead
of the half million issue voted.
