OLD ISSUE REVIVED OF
PAYING STATE'S DEBT
Atlanta, Ga., July 11, 1919.—Wi1l
the present legislature follow in the
footsteps of its predecesscrs and re
pudiate a mortal obligation or will it
kill the measure nntroduced Thursday
to pay Charles Crankshaw, a retired
jeweler, a bill for $2.055 which Gov
ernor Terrell made 15 years ago
when he ordered from the jeweler, on
short notice, a handsome silver ser
vice to be presented to the Battleship
Georgia upon the occasion of its
visit to Georgia?
This question will be decided agin
soon. Every year. for fifteen it has
come up and just so often have the
r.]e‘preseniatives turned down Mr.
Crenshaw. He says he is beginning to
lose faith in the people. He has an
honest jeweler. He credited ttire gov
ernor of a great state. He findh that
he cannot get his money unless the
assembly gives it to him, for soon
2fter the purchase, Governor Terrell
discovered that he did not have the
right to authorize the gift.
The old Georgia, one of the ancient
‘dreadnaughts of the American navy,
is obselete now. The debt, its making
‘and its non-payment are giving the
fstate a lot of unfavorable publicity
ithroughout the country. .

rest assured that they will get tthe
top of the market on every sale.
Every day will be sale day this!

quite convenient for the farmer as
he can come to market every day in

Mr. Motley who conducted the sules'
so satisfactory last season. t

acres in tobacco . in this county and
what will be bought to this murket’
from other counties, to get around
four millions pounds of Tobacco.
Dcdge County will market her crop
in Abbeville. They were satisfied
with the Abbeeville market lustl
season, and no doubt they will be
pleased this season, l
ANOTHER BIG MURDER CASE
" FOR ATLANTA THIS SUMMER
i Aglanta, July 11.—Atlanta, wili|
have another big murder case this
!summer to while away the hota after§
noons with of course, provided it de
‘velops along the lines indicated yes
‘ter(lay when Mrs. Rush Irwin declar
ed unture her husband’s allegations
that John Moody, a boarder, was in
timate with hed. It is the same old
}tale of a husband, suspicious, setting
spies on his wife, then shooting
another man.
Moody was killed in his room. Irwin
says he was watching outside and
saw him in his wife’s room and that
he fled. Mrs. Irwin says that Moody
was not there nor had he been there.
Furthermore she brands her busband’s
story as false and calls the deed
cold-blooded murder.
Irwin has no . plea save the “Un
written Law” upon which he says he
will base his claims for acquittal.
CONGRESSMAN UPSHAW MAY 1
" BRING WILSON TO ATLANTA
Atlanta, July 11.—('pngressmz1111
William D. Upshaw, of Atlanta, mayi
have done scmething ‘“big” yesterday

If President Wilson does come to

casion.
And it is not improbable that he
\vill come either. Alsp it is possible
]that he will go to Rome, where his
| first wife is buried.
