One of the most delightful affairs
of the season was a fruit festival
given by Miss' Selma Niblack on last

how to entertain more successfully
than Miss Selma, and any invitation
to her home is always gladly received
by our young people.

The Democrats in this district are
more jubilant and hopeful than they
have been in six years. There will
not be the slightest discord in the
ranks on this side of the county. In
fact, everybody is glad of the oppor
tunity of voting for such mjn as
Holder and Iloseh for representa
tive. Our people have not forgotten
the compliment that Mr.Hosch paid
us six years ago, and we propose to
give the Democrats four hundred
majority in this district.
John Holder will get more votes
than any man that ever run for of
fice in Jackson county; we heard a
man say the other day, “The only
thing there is against John, is his
beauty, and that don’t keep people
from voting for him.” As for W. T.
Stevens and A. C. Appleby, there
are no better men in this or any
other county than they are; from
the first our people have desired
that these two men make the race,
and the fact that they have no op
position shows the esteem in which
they are held by the Democratic
party. W hat we have said about
the above candidates will apply with
equal force to either one of the can
didates for collector or receiver, but
as there are more than one in the
race for each of these offices, we re
frain from mentioning their names.

press their choice for judges of the
superior court in a primary, as after
this year they are to be elected di
rect by the people.

Clippings, and Original Remarks, from

MISTAKES WE HEARD.
A fellow walked in to the soda
fount and called for a coca cola with
strawberry flavor.
A young lady calling for a milk
shake was asked by the clerk, what
color she wanted.
The other morning an old gentle
man looked up at the clouds and
said he got wet that morning, and it
looked like he was going to get wet
with rain that evening. One of the
boys then asked him how he got wet
—with perspiration. He said : “No,
I was cutting wood, and got wet
with sweat.”
KIND LITTLE SISTERS.
We certainly have some very
watchful little girls in our town.
You can see them looking after their
older sisters on all occasions. For
instance, if their older sisters take a
walk in the afternoon, they are on
hand; if their sister has a young man
call on her, they are on hand—so it
goes. To these little maids, we
would like to state just here —attend
to your own affairs; your sister will
mind her’s. You know you would
not like to have her running around
after you.
