Baptist church, will preach here on
Saturday afternoon of this week at
3 o’clock, and Sunday at 11 o’clock.
Misses Hattie Potts of Brockton,
Ina Hardy of Beaver Ruin, and Lot
tie Pinson of Academy, visited Mrs.
J. C. Bennett Friday and Saturday.
Mr. Emory Duke, who has been in
our town for some time recuperating
from a long spell of sickness, visited
his home near Athens last Sunday.

went down to Atlanta this week
Mr. L. M. Dadismau has been cor -
fined to his room with sickness for
several days, but we are glad to
state that he is able to be out again.
The friends of Mrs. A. H. Brock
will be delighted to know that she
has recovered from a recent attack
of tonsilitis.

days of last week with her daughter,
Miss Virginia Means, at the home of
Prof. Neal, on Lawrenceville St.
Mrs. I. G. Allan has been confined
to her bed for several days with a
severe attack of asthma, but is re
ported better.
Messrs. George Crane and Archie
Conaway of Athens are here putting
in the electric plant at the oil mill.
Mr. Crane is accompanied by his
charming wife.
Let no Democrat fail to go to the
polls and cast his ballot for the Hon.
Farish Carter Tate on Tuesday after
the first Monday in next month,
which is Nov. Bth.
Rev. C. B. Henry occupied the
pulpit at the Methodist church on
last Sunday morning, in the absence
of Rev. J. W. Stipe, who was at Leb
anon on that day.
Messrs. J. N. Ross and J. N. Hol
der went to Macon Monday to attend
the Grand Lodge of F. & A.
Masons. They returned to Atlanta
for the opening of the legislature.
Mr. J. E. Randolph, Sr., has been
in Atlanta for several days having
his eyes treated. His eyes have
caused him much suffering lately,
and his friends hope that he will re
turn home greatly benefitted.
Dr. Hoyt will preach at Thyatira
next Saturday afternoon, and next
Sunday, the fifth Sunday in October,
instead of the first Sunday in No
vember. All are cordially invited to
attend.
An Enjoyable Recital.

audience was not so large as it would
havebeen, but nevertheless a very
good house greeted the class.
The entertainment was merely an
exhibition of elocution, and.although
the pupils have only been in the class
something over a month,they showed
wonderful improvement, especially
m the gracefulness of their gestures.
Each piece was well rendered, and
enjoyed by the audience. The onl\
regret was that Miss Means did not
deliver one of her charming recita

A Remarkable Quilt.
Severa l weeks ago the ladies of the
Methodist church of the Jefferson
circuit undertook to raise some
money by piecing quilts. Beautiful
squares were made, and the names
of all who were willing to con
tribute something, were embroidered
on the squares. When the three
quilt3 were finished and the money
counted, they found that they had
made something over two hundred
dollars more than enough to relieve
the parsonage of its debt. The little
house on the corner of the lot that
has been such an eve-sore to the
street for so long a “ time, will be
moved away, and has been given by
the Ladies Parsonage Society to

will be placed around the parsonage
lot, and other needed improvements
made.
An article interesting to many of
our readers will be found on the first
page of The Herald this week. It
is a letter from far off Brazil, written
by Rev. H. S. Allyn, who went from
Jackson county to that country as a
missionary.
