LOCALS.
Mr. H. I. Mobley went down to
Atlanta Sunday.
Hon. Farish Carter Tate was in
the city a short while Tuesday.
Judge R. B. Ruasell of Winder
was in the city Tuesday.
The board of education held an
interesting session on "Wednesday.
Mr. Kimball of Winder paid Jef
ferson a visit Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Appleby of
Pendergrass visited Jefferson Tues
day.
Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Carr of Mays
ville spent Sunday with friends in
Jefferson.
Mr. A. J. Powers of Mt. Vernon,
lowa, has been visiting in Jackson
county for several days.
Prof. S. P. Orr of Winder, who
has many friends in Jefferson, was on
our streets Saturday.
Rev. J. W. Stipe will preach at
Elder’s Academy next Sabbath at
3 p. m.
Misses Maggie and Anna Jarrett
and Miss Genie Armstead of Center,
are visiting Misses May and Kate
Askew this week.
Mr. W. J. Martin and family have
returned to their home in the coun
try, after spending a year in Jeffer
son.
Rev. J. W. Stipe will preach at
Jefferson next Sabbath at 11 a. m.,
and 7p. m. This is the last appoint
ment before conference.
The friends of Mr. W. C. Wills
will be glad to know that he will
probably move back here this fall, in
order to avail himself of our excel
lent school.
Mr. J. J. Pettyjohn has been
elected marshal of Jefferson for the
next council year. He was marshal
here once before, and made a very
satisfactory officer.
Rev. Mr. Colley of Gainesville was
in the city this week. It is rumored
that one of Jackson’s fairest daugh
ters will accompany him to confer
ence the last of this month.
Mr. J. N. Hardy brought into our
office this week a sample of rice
grown this year on his farm at
Beaver Ruin. It was very tall and
heavily fruited, and shows what can
be done on Jackson county soil.
An inter-collegiate oratorical con
test was held in the Grand Opera
House in Atlanta on last Saturday
evening. Four colleges—Mercer,
Dahlonega, University and Emory—
were represented, and Mercer’s rep
resentative won by a narrow mar
gin.
The hunting season began in
Georgia on last Tuesday, November
Ist. No doubt many enthusiastic
sportsmen welcomed the first day of
the month, in order that they might
test their marksmanship and bring
home an abundance of game.
The stewards of the Methodist
church of the Jefferson circuit will
meet to finish up their work on Fri
day before the third Sabbath in No
vember, instead of Monday after the
third Sabbath. They will meet in
Jefferson at the store of N. N.
Pendergrass at 11 a. m.
Mr. A. C. Appleby is preparing to
move to Jefferson to assume control
of the office of clerk and treasurer.
We regret very much to lose him as
a citizen, but have the consolation of
knowing that our county’s interest
under him will be carefully attended
