night wps enjoyed by a large crowd,
it being given in honor of Misses
Lena Jacks, Mozelle Fleeman, and
Mr. Jim Shields, birthday. Every one
left at a late hour, wishing them ma
ny more happy birthdays.
Miss Pauline Fleeman returned to
Alabama. Sunday, after a month at
home with her people. She holds a
responsible position at a big depart
ment firm in Birmingham, Ala.

Waddell, spent Sunday at Bethle
hem, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Sims.

day school is progressing nicely. We
had Rev. Humphrey with us Sunday
p. m., and we welcome him back at
any time.

ing next Saturday night if the weath
er is suitable. We welcome one and

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Seabolt and
family, and Mr. and Mrs. Taul Sut
ton and baby, spent Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Whitlock.
Mrs. Nancy Sutton was called to
her reward last Friday night at 8
o’clock. She was eighty-one years
old. She was loved by all, and we
, know she is at rest in the arms of
her dear SavioUr, for she had served
her Lord from the early teens. She
is survived by many relatives to
mourn her going away, and also ma-
ny friends. Dear children, and all.
if you will live to your duty, you
will meet dear mother and grand
mother some sweet day.

Sunday school was not so well at
tended last Sunday, vn account of
the singing at Academy; but remem
ber mxt Sunday, our Sunday school
meets at the same hour every Sunday

We are glad to say that Mrs. T. J.
Dostir is able to be out.
Mr. and Mrs. Grier and children
were the guests of relatives at Hosch
ton last Sunday.
Misses Matilda and Nancy Bell
Grier spent last Sunday with their
sister, Mrs. Otis Ivey.
Messrs. Eddie Phillips, Emory
Hayes and Jim Hogan of Jefferson
left last Thursday for a ten days
visit to friends and relatives in Flor
ida.
The dance at Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Doster’s last Sautrday night was en
joyed by a large crowd.
Mrs. Scenie Whitehead and * two
children, Hugh D. and Paul, were the
Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and
Mrs. A. T. Phillips.
Mrs. A. T. Phillips is right sick at
this writing with cold.
Mr. and Mrs. Bunch Bryant and
Miss Lottie Bell Bryant were the

All who had the pleasure of hear
ing Rev. Collins at Oconee, Sunday,
were very much pleased, and we
are glad he is to be with us again
next first Sunday.
Quarterly conference was the best
in a long time Sunday, at Maysville;
and Dry Pond, Holly Spirngs and
Midway were well represented, and
all unite in praise of the hospitality
of the good people of Mavsville.
Mr. and'Mrs. Morgan Wilhite spent
Thursday p. m. -with Mr. and Mrs.
John Mitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. Ab Hardy of Jeffer
son attended preaching at Oconee,
Sunday.
Messrs. Cluad and Clinton Davis
were the guests of Mr. D. L. Harmon
a while Sunday night.
Sorry to learn that Miss Amanda
Pruitt has been sick this last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sanders of Ila
are the guests of the latter’s mother,
Mrs. Harvey Wilson, this week.
Mr. Edd Barber of Atlanta is the
guest of his son, Mr. John Barber,
this week.
Messrs. Hamp and A- D. Martin
and John Barber were in Atlanta,
Sunday.
Mr. Claud Doss, who has been so
very ill, was carried to Wesley Mem
orial Hospital in Atlanta last week,
but we learn he is improving, and
they hope now he won’t have to un
dergo an operation, as was at first
feared.
ACADEMY
Rev. W. P. Holland will be on
hand the second Saturday and Sun
day. Let all come out and give him
a good crowd.
We are sorry to state that Mr.
Jim Storey is very low with pneu
monia at this writing.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Evans bad as
their guests several of their children
and grand children.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jarrett and
little James spent the week-end vis
iting his parents in Clarke county,
and were accompanied home by his
father, who will spend several days
here.
Miss EHizaheth Echols dined at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W.
Shaw. Sunday.
The many friends of Mrs, Nat Oli
ver are glad to state that she is im
proving at this writing.

Mr. Carlton Perry was the supper
guest of Mr. U. C. Hale last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Watkins
spent last. Saturday night with the
latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. S.
Brown.
The visitors of our school last
Friday wire as follows: Mrs. J. T.
Freeman. Miss Willie Roaper and
Mr. U. C. Hale.
Irwin county held its third co-oper
ative chicken sale on Friday at which
742 chickens were sold for the sum
of $609.79. Irwin county is in South
Georgia. Ocilla is the county seat.
These chicken sales are held every
two weeks under direction of the
county agent and are convenient and
of great benefit to the farmers of
that section.
Johnnie Spencer, of the Macon
Telegraph, anticipating trouble that
might come to him in the future, sug
gests that this country needs a dis
appearing ink, so that a gent could
dash off a few lines to his sweetum
without any danger of having ’em
read aloud in a court room after the
bust up comes.
The Baptist church at Lithonia has
extended a call to Rev. B. D. Porter.
Rev. Porter was once pastor of the
Jefferson Baptist church, and he and
his charming and cultured wife have
many friends here.

Jane Smith, aged 90 years, a col
ored woman who made her home at
the county home, died on last Friday.
Myrt House, one of Jefferson’s col
oed citizens, passed away on last
Thursday. She was interred in Par
adise cemetery.
